So does anyone around here do much for Hallmark and See's favorite holiday? My B/F and I lament that commercialism has seized this one so thoroughly.......be he still got new PJ's and I got chocolate covered strawberries. We keep it very mellow. Dinner of leftover sushi and shrimp with a bottle of wine in front of reruns of Southpark. So romantic.

I didn't have a Valentine this year. :'(

My best friend's dad from grade school owns 4 Hallmarks in my area. He does very well. He used to always say how much he loved Valentine's Day. So I'm guessing that was his most profitable holiday.

Whats a Valentine?

Normally I hate this holiday, but its our first as empty nesters so we went to an ultra fancy steak house, then home to the spa and primetime TV.

I didn't even see my wife yesterday.  I leave for work before she gets up, and when I got home, she was still at work.  She worked late, so I went to bed before she got home.  A couple people where she worked called in sick, so they asked her to stay.
The annoying thing is that they weren't really sick.  They wanted the evening off, and were denied.  Hope they get their cabooses reamed when they show up this morning.  And they better stay out of Mrs. B's way........ >:(

I completely agree...not only Valentine's Day, but also other holidays.  Some are worse than others, but V Day is right at the top.

My boys (twin 17 year olds) had their girl friends over to watch a movie and have take out.  Still did the card and gift for my wife.  It was low key and a nice night with the wind blowing and the temps dropping.

we're new empty nesters too. just enjoyed the serenity and each others company... got her a cuople CDs and just layed in each others arms and watched tv...

My wife and I hardly acknowledge Valentines day. Like most guys, even though you found the love of your life, V-Day is a comercial, high presure pain in the butt.  My wife get's annoyed at the price gouging.  ($80 for a doz roses? $35 for chocolate? $6 for a card?  and resturants? Forget it. they are a zoo.)

We celebrated one V-day when we first met, and since then she has been very outpsoken about not doing anything special.  I protested (I think it was "oblilgitory that I did at least protest even if I to thought  it was a sham..."But honey! I WANT to show how much I love  you.....).  Nope. She hates it.

Yesterday was actually a nice day. We each took a snow day, slept in. had coffee and bagels in the late morning.  relaxed all day and then took care of the shoveling while she cooked a nice dinner.

We lit a fire in the upstairs living room, and pulled the two new chairs we just bought up close to fire place, listened to some music and had a bottle of wine.  I just picked up Harry Conik Jr's ne CD  NOLA and really enjoyed it. Nice background music. We just talked and watched the fire.  We had forgotten it was valentines day, when I reminded her.  "Happy Valentine's day" I said.

"oh yea. I forgot."  she smiled.

Then I wandered out to the tub for a long overdue  soak in the snowy night and ease my back from the shoveling.

:)

Life is good.
Very good.  8-)

I guess I'm the Valentine Pooper....I gave Ol' Meanness this box of candy I used as a prop at the recent home show.  It was about 2/3rds full.  I gave my daughter the bear, then I took them out for the buffet at Pizza Hut.  I did give Ol' Meanness a $100 bill so she could buy me a present.  She didn't.

Please tell me you have a fireplace there!

Sorry, Chas and Spatech have been ripping apart my posts, so I seized this chance to fire back.

Thats a shame Brook. At the very least he should perform his Manly duties. I think he is giving all men a bad name by that performance. I bought the lovely Mrs. a dollar store card with a little bear in a basket for 2.00. Stayed home with a great steak and salad and enjoyed the pellet stove before shoveling for the 3rd time. Came in for some hot lovin and unlike you wasn't disappointed! ;) ;)

PS: Are you married? They say married couples get more lovin than singles. :o :o

I was pretty lucky as a kid and teen that Valentine's day was a different thing to me. My wonderful grandfather would buy all of the ladies in his life a box See's chocolates. Even as a little kid I got a small decorative heart shaped box and he'd ask very sincerely "Will you be my Valentine?"  So as a teen, pretty much always single, I never cared about the conventional VTD  and all of the silliness around me since to me it was my Grandpa's day. Even when I was away for college, he'd send something, which that first year in the dorms, was a godsend for a slightly homesick 18 year old. He's been gone almost 10 years, but he's my only real Valentine.

No!!! He's making me look good! Not giving all men a bad name.  It's all relative.

For the record, my DH has never been big on getting stuff for hallmark holidays and I am okay with that.  I typically buy my own birthday and christmas presents then wrap them from him.  This year he shocked the crap out of me by buying me new pots and pans for Christmas.  I had already bought myself a board game, lol.  Valentines and anniversaries we don't usually do anything for besides me cooking a favorite dinner and adding dessert.  I do normally by myself some chocolate for VTD.  This year I waited till the day after so I could get it 50% off.

I was just dissapointed I didn't get any loving.   :(  Granted he does have a broken collar bone and is in a bit of pain, but come on suck it upand put out already.

I played hockey.

I tell my wife that I love her every single day, so I do not need a special day for that.

My grandpa would put his cigars out on my arm and make me wring chickens' necks for sport.  He said Valentine's Day was for sissies and massacres.  Thanksgiving was of the devil.
