New House Old Coleman - Can we make it work?

Hi All - We have just moved into a new house which came with a Coleman that is approx. 10 years old.  Everything is connected and working as far as we know.  There is no water in it yet and we were looking for some basic beginning steps short of having to pay someone to fill it with water and turn it on.  

Can you give us some advice with regards to refilling and testing heaters, etc.  Thanks!

If it is hooked up and ready to go as far as you know, the first thing to do is fill it. If you can fill it through the filter area this may help prevent air locks.

Check for any leaks, if all seems ok, turn it on and go from there....

WE just filled it and apparently we arent getting power  hopefully this is a connection issue.

Make sure both breakers are on, inside and out if there is an external box??   Some spas also have a door safety switch, if the front panel of the spa is open it wont run if it has the switch.  The switch will look like a magnet with 2 wires running to it, if you want to by-pass it clip the 2 wires off and wire them together.

It also may have a reset btn on the control box of the spa??

Yes we have all of that including the external box.  Now it seems to be turning on but the external breaker trips.  We are not sure what is causing that but it seems to be the issue.

Most likely a bad heater.    If you see a  3"X 12 to 13" stainless steel tube thats your heater, it has 2 leads or wires coming off it, you can unhook those 2 leads and let them hang free as long as they dont touch together or any thing else.   Then turn the power back on and see if the breaker still trips, if it does it probably is something else, if it doesnt trip and stays on its probably the heater element?  If the breaker doesnt trip, shut it back off and re-hook the heater back up, then hit power again if it trips its most likely the heater.

You still could have other issues causing the breaker to trip.

 Also make sure any slice valves are open if there are even any on that spa??  Should be 2 valves on either side of the pumps or heater??

If all else fails or your not comfortable doing what I suggested call a tech!!!
