emptying/refilling the tub

ok, we bought a Caldera Cantebria in September, and I planned to empty/refill it in early December, hoping the weather will cooperate.
quick question-do i need to flip the breaker and turn the whole thing off when I do this? I am thinking if it stays on the filter will be just sucking in air and that might cause a problem.

This is an excellent time to test your GFI as well.  When I kill the power to our tub, I don't flip the breaker, I push the Test button.  The breaker flips down halfway indicating a trip condition, and the power is off at that point.  To reset the breaker, turn it completely off, then when you have nearly filled the tub, you can turn it on. 

I always test it when I swap filters, perhaps 1-3 weeks apart.

I used to do total empty/refills but have found it easier to just open the drain and add new water while it is draining.  I'll do this for about an hour maybe less, and while it's not a total water change,  I do get crystal clear water again, and I don't have to spend as much time heating it back up.

I've never heard of anyone doing that? ??? Seems like a waste to me and I guess I don't really see a huge advantage. Other than testing for TDS, you would never really know when you've made a significant difference...

Thats not too uncommon in the dead of winter out on the tundra where its friggin freezing cold and you just want to freshen the water. Otherwise, I'd opt for a full drain/refill every time.

Perhaps for some, the tundra is so friggin freezing cold, they have a slight.....impairment (?) .... which impacts their judgment and memory.
