-1 degree soak

We haven't had much cold weather or any snow this year which is unusual, but I got  chance to soak when it was -1 degree F a couple of nights ago.  There was a 5 mph wind, and I had to keep my face wet every couple minutes, but other than that no problems.  Usually I can snap the top before coming in, but I had to go in and dry off first because it was too cold to do it right away.  This was kinda fun!

I felt brave last night for a 2am 20F soak.........much colder and I would have had a hard time going out there. But once I was in the water, the hat I had worn was too warm. It helped that the water was at 104.

We were out last night at right around zero as well. Not much wind and that makes all the difference. I too did the open and close routine while dressed for the weather.

Tonight was a 10 degree soak in the middle of a six inch snow storm.  Fortunately there was no wind.  AWESOME to soak while it is snowing!

We tubbed tonight at about 40 degrees.  Thats the coldest we've done and it felt great.  Only problem was it was a family soak so that meant suits were involved...

It was a fridgid 59 degrees when I got in last night.  I have daffodils sprouting up in the garden.  

Cat's are barking and dogs are meowing.  What's going on around here?????

My last soak for a few days was in 55 degrees with a steady downpour. We were thinking of bulding Arks, but WHYNOT's freezing rain is head our way, so its time to break out the skates.

Here  in MA we've got some frigid temps. This morning at 7:30 my outdoor thermometer told me it was  -5. Brrrrrr. The weather chick tells me with the wind, it feels like -20.


Over beers last night at a local pub, my friends begged  Hinted  that since it was so #$^@#cold, that tonight we all get togethor for a hot tub soak.  Looks like I'll have a full tub tonight.  It's expected to warm up to 7. A virtual heat wave.

-27 here in hamilton ontario canada last night plus the windchill.  It was so cold that my hair forze instantly.  It was crazy

my new j470, is up at my ski house that i go to every weekend, and this being the third weekend with my new tub i had to hit, the thermoter was reading -16 and the wind was intense.  my robe was iced up from the wind blowing the steam from the tub on it, but it was a very injoyable 3 beer soak.  i love the cold.  cant wait to ski thismoring.

Anything less than 0 for me gets to cold. It's more comfortable at 10-30 above. The coldest I have soaked is -21 no wind chill. I have had oppertunitys to soak to -32 but have opted out. -32 was a bit to nippy to soak IMO

Wind is definitly the biggest factor in cold weather soaking. I have soaked in minus 17 degrees and it felt great with no wind. Also been out in 15 degrees with a stiff wind blowing and couldn't really enjoy it. For me it is always a bigger issue getting in than getting out after soaking.

My coldest soak was 8 degrees above freezing with calm winds. I'd go colder as long as there were no winds. Wind only bothers me when the ambient temps are less than about 10. I would however, prefer cold winds over rain any day. I refuse to soak during rain as I can't stand gettin' pelted in the head.

Our below zero soak wasn't bad at all.  We started with a mai-tai up at the worlds tackiest chinese resturant, (but serves what has been legitamley argued as the "Best Mai Tai" in the US") and then to the tub.  Not bad at all, there wasn't a lot of wind (which I think makes a huge difference), and since the tub is only   3 steps from the door, it's pretty easy and quick to get into the water.


The steam off the tub creats a warm area just above the water, so your head doesn't get too cold. However,  if your hair got damp, you had frozen locks.  If you lifted yourself out of the water more than 12" above the water line, you got cold quickly.  The sky was crystal clear, and it was deadly quiet outside, after about 25 mintues with the jets on, we turned them off and just soaked in the hot water, sippin on beers and enjoying the frigid outdoors.

I have to concur Drew.  I was out on Sat when the temp as +12F but breezy.  I was okay, but my face got a bit chilly and I actually got sort of a headache.  Then on Sunday morning my GF and I were out in -9F but without a breeze and it was AWESOME!  Both times I did jack the heat to 104 instead of my normal 103.  After about 30 mins on Sunday I needed to sit half way out for a bit to cool down for a minute.  WHAT A GREAT FEELING!  IT WAS AAAAAL GOOD!

Then again, us Minnesotans are pretty loco anyway, so don't go by what I say...

I keep my tub around 101 in the winter, but about an hour before the sub zero soak kicked it up to 103.  Even in extreme cold, I found it was too hot.  

I remember my old POS tub,  in the winter after about 20 minutes you could feel the tub getting cooler and I never could get it "too hot".   I was really impressed the other night, it had to be one of, if not the coldest night I soaked and still was "cooked" after 30 minutes.

We got back in the house, wrapped in thick robes, sat around the fire, had another beer and just "relaxed". What a great way to spend a bitter cold night.

We had a windy +13 last night, so it was hard on the face.  In the 30 years I have lived in Columbus, I think we have only had below zero F a handful of times and none since 03 when I bought the tub.  4F is the coldest its been since we have owned it.
