A dumb question...but also a serious one

I just had a New Year's Eve Party....

It was fun and alot of people are asking me
"when are we gonna do it again?".

I said I may have a Halloween Party next year....

Then I thought if I had a halloween party it might be cool
to have my hot tub going with the cover off and have the water
"boiling red" like blood.

My question is.....would there be a way to do that like with
red food color that would not stain or damage the spa?

Try a red light lens and a couple of chunks of dry ice

Zep, my spa lights have one lens that is red and I HATE it because it does look like blood in the tub...I think the red lens would do the job and not risk staining anything in your tub. Now Drew will probably suggest a good place to get mangled body parts ...they always add a nice flair!

Dry ice can give you frostbite really really fast. I am not sure if you want your toasted up friends playing with it...in the tub...but you have almost a year to work out the details...

You'll need an awful lot of coloring agent to make that quantity of water blood red.  I'd be worried about permanent staining, and locating a reasonbly priced source of dye.  
 Not to mention what migh happen to anyone who chooses to soak- would you be using the spa?   Or just for decoration (no tubbing?)

yeah you are probably correct......

i think the red cover lense makes the most sense with possibly
containers of dry ice positioned around the outside of the tub....

maybe a "floating monster" in the water.....

My source for mangled body parts went out of business.    Hoenslty, I'm truely upset.

I wouldn't put food coloring in the spa, I think it would stain the filters.   I don't think dry ice is needed either, as you'll get steam comming off the top of the tub anyhow.  (and as noted dry ice will burn you).  Save the dry ice for the witches brew.   If you wanted to do the tub for halloween, I'd focus on it's abilty to steam (ie "Fog") plus with some lighting and music, you could have some fun.

How about putting a skelenton in the hot tub?  Since I like ya,   here's a tip. Don't buy skeletons from the Halloween stores. You'll pay big bucks for a piece of crap.  You want what's known as a a 4th quality bucky.

get a leanth of tubing and attatch to one of the jets and run it up through a prop (skeleton, skull what not) and create a haunted fountain.

Anything over the tub ?  Buy a pant load of rubber bats and hang with fish line over the tub

Tiki torches add a nice flair.

Floating body parts....hands, arms, legs. these can be found en-masse on ebay, google, department stores.

The pool dealer close to my house sells dye for a pool (red,green and blue), I guess that would work in a tub.  It disapears after 2-3 weeks apparently.

I'm on the "don't add coloring to the water" boat. There are lights/lens covers that will do the job just as well, and will require no cleanup afterwards. As far as dry ice, you could float some bowls in the tub with water and dry ice...just be SURE that the bowls aren't going to tip over easily. A few of those would probably fog the tub nicely. I just taught my hubby the joys of dry ice the other day. My dad had some meats delivered, and they keep dry ice in the cooler. Hubby had almost TOO MUCH fun.
Another thing, while I'm thinking of it...floating body parts are an interesting idea, just be sure they're not small enough to get wedged in any jets, etc.

Do you think the dry ice is needed?  
If only there was a way to get some type of water vapor to rise off of a hot tub some type of "fog" or "steamy" effect.......hmmm, there's got to be a way.

/dry ice is expensive, and get's used up very quickly.

Dry ice is way fun to play with.  At a company picnic I put a small piece in my beer glass, and was the highlite of the day (relatively boring company).
  Also kept the beer cold and really carbonated.

(Yes, I was careful not to drink the ice, or touch it with bare skin.......)
