Plantation woman, 79, found dead in hot tub

Staff report
September 14 2006

PLANTATION, FLORIDA

A Plantation man found his 79-year-old wife face down in their hot tub Wednesday evening, police said.

Rescue workers pronounced her dead at 6:42 p.m., Detective Philip Toman said.

Police are investigating the apparent drowning, which happened in the 9200 block of Northwest 14th Court, but said it does not appear to be suspicious, Toman said. He did not know the woman's name Wednesday night.

The county Medical Examiner's Office will do an autopsy to determine her exact cause of death.

How hot was the water?  Were there any chopped vegetables floating in there with her?

I wonder if at that age maybe she just had a massive heart attack while sitting in the hot tub?

But I guess they said she probably drowned?

It would seem to me to be a bit hot in Florida yet to be sitting in a hot tub.

In Texas it is still too hot outside for me...but soon it will cool off.

No telling what happened.

We all go sometime.  Statistically, someone's bound to kick while tubbing.

Awww, didn't you like my sick joke????  :P

No telling what happened.

It wouldn't even take a massive heart attack. Anything "strong" enough to cause lose of consciousness could then result in slipping beneath the water and drowning. Medications and alcohol are also things things that could cause this.

Hypothetically, even if she had a massive heart attack that would have killed her, if she drowned first, the "reported" cause of death would be drowning.
If you can't sell it on eBay, it may not even qualify as landfill.

Retired (mostly) from the industry after 33 years...but still putzing around with a consumer information website, and trying to sell obsolete owners manuals

I guess that really makes the case for never tubbing alone.

My mom always warned me about that....

You guys are sooooo bad!  That was my dear old grandmother that drown!
not really, but did you feel bad for a minute there?

Seriously, I read that water @ 95 degrees can increase blood pressure 35%.
If she had high blood pressure, maybe she just boiled over. (Who's bad?)

Wow Bama....did not know that.

I need to remember that and warn visitors because if they croak in your hot tub and it can be traced back that the hot water sent em over the edge they might could sue ya!

30 years ago (in my late '20's), I had a friend die in a hot tub - he wasn't found till the next day, and was well-done.

Drugs were involved.

That said, the wife and I love the locations available to set wine glasses on our Artisian Falcon - this factor actually came up during our dry and wet testing before buying...

re: I love the locations available to set wine glasses on our Artisian Falcon -

Yep I can see why.....that is something alot of tubs companies
are not really addressing in a serious manner....
I am not familar with how Artisian solves it.

I am not crazy about the drink holders on my CalSpa or alot of other tubs
I have seen by other makers.

Lots of extremely user friendly well placed drink holders need to be standard
in all tubs!

The little so called  "drink holders" with the 1/2 inch lip just don't cut it
because they equal spillage and knockovers......so you end up placing your
drink on an edge....the top edge of the tub....and this adds almost zero
support on the drink's side and OOOOOOPS.....it spills.

We need drinkholders that can survive a hurricane!....LOL.....Just kidding
but something that actually works and is made into the tub....no after market
stuff!

All tubs need deep(no chance of knock-over) drink holders that have a drain
hole in the bottom in about 6-8 places all over the tub. Basically a koozie type
hole that is made into the tub and has a drain at the bottom....that drains to a
safe place.

I also think Spa makers should have pop-up towel holders too.....
hell if they can pop up a televsion from inside the cabinet of a tub....
why not a pop-up towel holder? Or at least make it an optional piece you
can order. Again....no after market stuff....make it into the tub frame!

Another thing I think most tub makers need is heat/pump controls that are
about the size of a shoe box top that can be as easily read in real bright
sunlight as at night.
