Patio construction pictures (new pics 6/16)

Hi all!  Everyone has been great in helping this first timer attempt to decipher and choose which spa is right for my family.  We have gone ahead and have been putting in a patio with a section off the deck for the new spa.  Haven't purchased the spa yet but I figured I would post the construction pics.  Sorry if the pics are kinda dark...it was dusk when I snapped the pics.

Here are the particulars...our current deck (which we left alone) is 12' X 22' and the new patio is right off the deck and is 20' X 27' with a retaining wall around it as the yard slopes toward the patio/deck.  There is also a circular section of patio against the deck where the spa will go (pavers not in yet).  I am thinking about taking the deck railing down by this section, perhaps putting up a gate, so we can access the spa directly from the deck.  This would help in the winter to shorten the walk to the spa.  You will also be able to access the spa from the patio.  On the other side the patio will connect via paved walkway to the driveway.

Pavers are by Techo Block and Grinnell stones were used on the retaining walls.  My mason tells me you can drive a Hummer on the pavers with no ill effects so the spa should be fine.  One note the pavers have a surface contour (they are not entirely smooth on top).  I doubt this will be a problem.

Hey Marc your project looks great!

I am a big fan of the "ashlar slate" rock
pattern and "different sizes pattern" look.

We gotta see it when you're finished.

Only one thing I would change....

That white lattice work should be
changed to a red wood looking lattice
or if possible even done away with.

But thats pretty minor and you have a
great looking patio project.

Gores...I love looking at pictures but you'll have to reshoot them in the daytime.  I'm sure it's beautiful but difficult to make them out.

Thanks guys for all the kind words.  I can switch the lattice in a heart beat but the white lattice up there now is a plastic resin.  Does anyone know if they make the resin lattice in a redwood color?  I really do not want to use real wood.

As soon as the tub is in I will post more pics.

I don't know of any vinyl products with redwood color - tan, gray and white seem to be the extent.

But - if you used wood in that location, put some clear stain on it once and it would be good for years and years. It is somewhat protected there, and vertical wood outlasts horizontal ten to one.

I have it on my deck and it is a wood color.  Not quite a red wood color but pretty close.  Got it at menards...

Someone mentioned the last set of pics were a little dark.  I went out this morning and snapped a few more.  

Notice the circular area next to the deck is for the spa.  I am planning on having the spa sit directly against the deck and the top of the spa will be about 10" or so above the floor of the deck.  Not sure how much of the deck railing we will take out or if we will put a gate, etc. on the deck.  Another option is to have another set of stairs off the deck to the back of the circular pation section where one could access the spa.  This alternate access will be for the winter months when you will not want to have to go down the deck and across the patio to access the spa.

Do it myself?  Me?  Ummm....no.  About the only think I did was give drawings to my contractor and sign the checks!      I was trying to post pics of the drawing but I could not load an adobe file here.  Amazing how the project grew from paper to completion.  He made suggestions and we added on here and there.  As a matter of fact the spa and its area was a last minute addition!  I started reading this forum and got hooked!!!!

He is a friend of my in-laws and in watching him and his crew work there is absoultely NO way I could have done this myself.  Some things I will try and this was definitely not one of them!
