Even Horses need a tub of hot water!
« on: May 24, 2006, 07:56:43 am »
This is the poor injured Kentucky Derby winning horse, Barbaro. I thought is was interesting that they used a warm water bath to allow him to wake from his surgery. Apparently the warm water had not only a calming effect, but allowed him to thrash about and not cause any damage to his reconstructed back leg.
I was amazed...and as an animal lover, grateful that the owers are willing to do whatever it takes to keep this beautiful horse alive!

There probaby is also buoyancy as a factor as the tub prevents full weight from being placed on the leg.

I expect the motives are not driven so much by a love of animals, but by the anticipated 40k to 100k stud fee.

Nice work, if you can get it.

yeah, if he was not a winner, he'd be.....gone....now. But I have seen people willing to spend $500 on a $10 rat, and people mortgage their house to send their dog to UC Davis.
There is plenty of love and compassion out there, but not at the racetrack!!! Cool Pic, though.

Bingo.  This is a business, after all.
Look what happens to Greyhound's after they outlive their usefuleness at the racetracks.

From what I've read, the stud thing is all but out of the question.
Not that I'm an expert but, that stud would need to rear up on his hind legs and .......... I'll be right back. ::)

Sorry..........To much pressure on the injured leg. Let's leave it at that. ::)

I have a customer who is part of a rescue organization trying to help get the dogs into loving homes. She adopted one. The dog is ultra mellow.  According to her, the dogs make good pets and have many years left to live.

I was talking about me. ;D ;D
Seriously, I hope you're right Mendo. I did not hear the latest on Barbaro. Being an animal lover I'd hate to see him or any other animal destroyed.
