... I've bought chemicals off ebay, the tub didn't know the difference, warranty is still intact.

...

OMG ... say it aint so ... you bought chems off of ebay and they worked and you don't have boils?  ;) ;D

I think as was said - it all depends on the dealer - if he/she is an a$$ then they'll give you a hard time, if they are good to deal with then it won't matter. If the dealer does turn out to be an a$$, then tell everyone you know to stay away.

I would imagine all products can be had cheaper and the same quality MAY not be there. Also, a cheaper bulb may be good enough for a person where someone else needs the most expensive. This is true in ALL walks of life.

I had mine installed by the factory because it was a 2 for 1 special my dealer was running, I don't know if I would have paid $180 for it by itself but for "free" (or half price depending on how you look at it) it was worth it.

This was not a personal atack. It is an atack on what I belive is short sided thinking.  If a customer goes into the local spa store and finds a "top of the line" spa that costs 10k, yet that customer "Thinks" that the spa he found for 2k on line is just as good. After all both have hot water and bubbles.   Wouldnt everyone on this site tell him its apples and oranges and that he had better due his research.
The same thing applies to someone that thinks they found a deal on a light bulb.  We sell those starting at $29.99  all the way up to 399.99.  If any one thinks that the $30 light is even close to the 300 dollar version...Well lets just say "cheap a**"  sounds about right

In my line of business, it wasn't a personal attack. I've had more guns pointed at my head than I care to think of, THAT is a personal attack. But you did attack my character, and friend, my character is higher than yours ever will be.

It is amazing you have been able to sustain a business with your attitude, but then again, I am sure you wouldn't point your customers to this thread now would you?

So sell all the $400 lights you wish, smart people will look for better ways to spend their money.

I am sure you would NEVER buy anything but the very best and you will always pay full price, right? RIGHT?

What is the differnce between the $30 light and 300 dollar version?

Are  the differences in LED set ups? Originally, I thought the exspensive dealer instlled option might have been dimming LEDS that are alround/throuhout the tub and around it's edge. (as opposed to a single multi colored bulb.)   Someone mentioned that there may be a concern on the # of Pins (?).

I think there is difference between someone being ignorant of things (if there is a significant difference between these lights.) In which case I'd think someone would explain those differences, and someone being "dumb"

Also, someone who balks at what initially appears to be a 300% markup on an item is not a cheapass.  In fact, if they didn't ask,  I would think they were a dumbass.

So I'll ask:

What's the diffefence in these units?  Why does a dealer get  several hundred dollars for the unit, when it appears to be a realativly inexspensive, easly installed option?

Is this the spa equivielent of rust proofing and undercoating?

What is the difference in the units?  Great question.

I too am struggling with all this LED stuff. Dynabrite for $500?  10 pin for $50, 24 pin for $150?

Mine is a simple LED that changes/cycles through about 6 colors.  I don't have a ring of lights around my tub, nor do I have external lights.  The simple LED that I have is nice, but there is no way I'd pay $150 (or $500 for it), I think the standard spa light (non-LED) would have sufficed.

We typically keep our light on RED or BLUE (about hlf the time we don't even turn the light on)  The other colors are rather bright.

Years ago I thought the dewalt drills were overpriced. I purchased 3 sets of Black and Decker cordless drills for my guys.  Gazebo installs went from 2 hours to 3.  The batterys wouldnt stay charged for a third of the time that the dewalts did.  One summer of black and decker and I went right back to dewalts.  One of my employees made a comment that I will never forget "BUY CHEEP, BUY TWICE"

Funny, I just bought my dad for his birthday a Dewalt Drill.  ;D
(I even bought it off E-bay Oh no!)

I was thinking on getting him a craftsman drill, but didn't want  him to void his warrenty on anything he happened to  drill with it.  ::)

At this point, I'm with Mr  Monk.  Go with Ebay for $30.

I have a better idea smart guy, why don't you sponsor an American Veteran who doesn't have the money to put food on his table? How about you take a percent of your profits and donate it to the VFW or another organization that has given you the freedom you seem to take for granted.

Why have you failed to answer any of the questions directed your way? Is it because you know you are wrong?

Once again, Do you ever look for a deal or do you always pay full price?

BTW - Do you know what VFW even stands for?

The cheapest version is a 24 pin L.E.D. light. It directs light in a straight line (for the most part)across the spa.  You will notice a dark green (or blue or red) spot on the opposite wall.
The next step up is a 36 pin light on an arch.  The arch angles the light so you get an even color throughout the spa
The next step is that same 36 pin light with a seperate L.E.D. light for inside of a waterfall. It also comes with a computer board to sync the two units
The Most expensive unit has the 36 pin w arch, Computer operating system, Waterfall lights, and two lights for the outside of the spa. (outside lights are controled w/ photocells and turn on at dusk)
The most expensive system takes about 2.5 man hours to install.

Micah,
Which one is this?
How much would this one cost?

Micah,

Just so you know, I am fully done with this subject. I will pray that you nor any member in your family ever have to go what I have to go through on a daily basis. I see things on a daily basis at the VA that breaks my heart.

Perhaps a dose of reality would do you some good. Not everyone can afford the best of things. Yes, maybe I didn't give the best advice, but I have an opinion just as everyone else does. Because it difers with yours does not constitute name calling, or reducing them to an economic class that does not suit yours.

But my recommendation that you donate to an Am Vets organization stands. I extend this to everyone who reads this message. The suffering done by others that allow us all the freedoms we enjoy is a sight most people really couldn't stomach.

God bless you Micah. our opnions may differ, but we each live in the best country in the world, where the expression of those differences can be done without penalty of the Gvt.

When it comes to a pump or a leak, NO!  But if a computer board goes out the manufacture is going to ask for a signed affidavit from the repair tech.  The afidavit states that the nothing has been altered, (ie adding a stereo, putting in bigger pumps, Putting in higher watt lights ect.ect.)  The question is not wether the warranty is vioded or not, but wether your repair tech will lie for you.

This reminds me of the when the auto industry was refusing warrenty work if a customer had thier oil changed at a quick lube place rather than at thier dealership.

Import stores may have had that policy, but I dont remember any U.S. auto companies with that policy.

And getting those quick lube techs to fill out the affidavits can be a bugger...

We like our lights on the tub. I really like turning on the nozzle in the center and then turning on the red lights, then the air bubbler. I call it the lobster pot. As for the subject on cheapa$$es, We all like a good deal. I don't think it has anything to do with your ablity to pay. Or how much money you have. If my tub didn't have lights and needed to be fitted for lights, like the hull being drilled and a bulkhead fitting being put in then I think a dealer should be called. But if it just a matter of changing a bulb then who cares? BTW Tom, thanks for the kit for upgrading my tub. I now can fully control my tub and all its fuctions remotely.  Nice when your done tubbing and you add the chemicals and close the top and go in the house and turn off whatever later.

I think some folks need to be aware of the "Tie in Sales provision" in the Magnuson-Moss Warranty Act    ::)

"Tie-In Sales" Provisions
Generally, tie-in sales provisions are not allowed. Such a provision would require a purchaser of the warranted product to buy an item or service from a particular company to use with the warranted product in order to be eligible to receive a remedy under the warranty. The following are examples of prohibited tie-in sales provisions.

In order to keep your new Plenum Brand Vacuum Cleaner warranty in effect, you must use genuine Plenum Brand Filter Bags. Failure to have scheduled maintenance performed, at your expense, by the Great American Maintenance Company, Inc., voids this warranty.
