Author Topic: Sundance 108 degrees? (Read 9805 times)

I have had my '05 Maxxus for about 6 months now.
I have them temp set at the max (104 degrees), but when I'm in the tub, it always seems to drop a degree or two. I wouldn't mind a few extra degrees... especially during the winter months.
I seem to remember the salesman saying something about being able to make an adjustment that would allow the max temp to reach 108. Is this true?

It is. It takes a jumper change. I don't know how to do it and I haven't seen anyone who does know how share this information.

Check back with the dealer. Maybe they will do it, but don't count on it. Nobody wants the liability.

You might get someone here to tell you how to set that jumper, question is weather you'd trust that information.
Dealer may or may not want to help, for reasons given above.

Funky .... I have an '05 Optima, and my dealer said that max temp can be changed to 108. He said they will tell me how to change it; as long as I'd sign a waiver.

wouldn't that kill the warranty? if it did, would it be worth the extra couple degrees? (not to me, personally)

i like a nice hot shower like the next guy.....but to soak, 104 is perfect IMO (been doing alot of that lately

)

theres a big difference in 104-108......and the amount of time soaking would drop dramatically for me. personally id rather soak @104 for 20-30 minutes than 108 for 5-10.

I don't think it affects the warranty; my dealer has been setting up all new spas in our city with the jumper in place, without any wavers (actually, without even asking the owner). I agree that 108 is HOT, and would never set it there myself, but I did set it to 105 once when it was really cold. I found even that is just too hot to stay in for long.

I don't see why it'd harm the spa any, all it's doing is allowing the water to go a little warmer. Can't imagine 108 is anywhere near the temperature that would damage anything.
They'd have to prove that this allowable jumper setting somehow caused your problem. And since setting the jumper this way is possible, without messing around with the board, it give pretty weak grounds for invalidating a warranty.
On the other hand, if someone rigged up some sort of Rube Goldberg thing, and shorted out the board or something, then I could see a claim denial based on unauthorized tampering.

If a Sundance dealer willingly sets that jumper for you, they can hardly come back and deny warranty.

And I suspect that anyone setting this themselves might have the presence of mind to set it back before calling service.

I contacted the dealer today.
A tech will be out tomorrow to perform the "thermostat override modification"
I have to sign a waiver and pay an $81 service call.

I'm amazed by how much a difference a two degree increment makes - going from 102 to 104 is like night and day after ten minutes. 108 is going to be tooooasty.

On my old tub, since there's no real temp guage and the difference between 102 and 103 is a miniscule bump on the knob, I bet I could get it hot enough to have the emergency override kick in - 118.

I believe they are set to go to 108 for European spas. From what I understand they don't follow the same guidelines as in the States. I also understand that starting in spring 2006, you will not have the option of this overide.

I once went to a guys house to check on a matter unrelated to spa temp. I was surprised to find the water temp 107� and upon noting it the guy's chest rose and he gave the old "yeah, we like it that hot, anything less is unacceptable" while his wife stood there silently. A minute later he went in the house for something and I was talking to his wife and said "so you like it that hot too" and she replied, "yeah, but we really can't stand to stay in for more than 5 minutes at that temp". I wish he was there when she said that as I found it comical and know it would have burst his macho bubble. Temperature is a personal thing and I long ago stopped telling people what temp they should have it at (if they ask I always suggest they start at 101� and adjust from there as needed).

I'll let you know tomorrow, but I'm assuming it will say something like:
"I am aware that the maximum recommended temperature for hot tub water is 104 degrees, and bathing in hotter water may be seriously bad for your health, and even result in death. Mirage Spa and Recreation will not be held responsible should any such injury occur"

Yeah, please do share if you don't mind. As long as that's all it was, then I'd personally sign. If it was any kind of waiver for spa repair or warranty, then maybe I wouldn't.

Also- if you do crank up that water to 108, let us know how long you were able to stay in. I have trouble going beyond +/- 20 minutes at 104.
