I had one. When I rinsed it out as per instructions, the liquid that drained was oily, so I'm thinking it works. In industry there are many such products for oil spill control. However, when I was having "issues" with my water, I figured that these things are potentially breeding grounds for nasty things, and got rid of it. I subscribe to the simplest water treatment possible, as many have supported: dichlor, ozone, N2. Nothing else.

I use it. It seems to work great especially when there is a lot of foam problems. It just seemed to help pick up some of the oils. The only problem is that once it was dirty i havent been able to clean it. They are cheap enough so I just threw a new one in.

They do soak up oil and debris, but so would most sponges. It's just viscuous foam. If it were shaped like a pirate ship , that would be cool. Bugs ain't very cool.

A Spongebob Scum Sponge would probably be a big seller.

This is by far a better quality product than the scum bug.

I'd buy one if it was shaped like an oil tanker.

Seriously, I haven't had any issues with scum on the tile, or anything else. Am I missing something?
