Just curious what temp everybody is keeping there tubs at when you are not using it ? And is it necessary to keep my 24 hr circ pump running at 30 min intervals or can I lower it to 15 min?

we keep ours at 100, but when it's real cold I like 101. I like to stay in the tub for a while and anything warmer would drive me out. Hubby prefers 99. His back dr. told him to be careful because warmer temps are bad for the inflammation.

Is this the same temp when you get out of the spa? I guess my question should be what is the temp you keep your spa at when you are not using it?

I keep my tub at a constant 101 during winter. When I went on vacation for 3 weeks I was going to lower it to 80, but my neighbor asked to use it while we were gone, so I left it at 101.

I keep my tub at 101-102 during the winter and usually around 99-100 in the summer. I've heard of people setting it lower when they're not using it, but then I read the posts about people whos power has gone off and their tub only lost a few degrees in a few days, so that leads me to believe if you did set your temp. back, it probably wouldn't even fall to that level before you had to turn it back up to use it again in a few days.

I have heard of people turning it way back if they're going on vacation and the reasoning behind that I heard was that the lower temperatures allowed your sanitizer to stay active longer.

I'm not sure I follow on your question about the 24 hr. circ pump. Mine runs 24/7, I wasn't aware that there were 24 hr circ pups you could set to run in cycles, but I'm still learning here too. I would guess you'd want it to run constantly to keep the water filtered, mixed consistantly, etc.

If I were going away for more than a few days, I'd turn my heat down. Living is Socal, I wouldn't have to worry about freezing, and the conservationist in me thinks it'd be a waste.

Supposedly, lowering a spa by 3 degrees saves 10 - 15 % of spa heating costs. I "brain googled" that, and then web googled

I'm liking 101 right now in chilly New England. My wife who gets overheated easly would prefer it lower (98!) . Friends and visitors seem to prefer 101 as well.

I do not lower the temp when not using it.

1) I'm not conviced that cycling the heater up and down is saving me anything (this is a knee jerk hypthosis )

2) I don't want to wait for the tub to get to temp. I wont to use it when I want to .

Like others, I am confused by your question on the 24 circ pump. A 24 hr circ pump is just that a small circulation pump that runs 24 hrs a day, 7 days a week (unless it's programed for summer mode). What type of tub do you have?

And since we are on the topic of temps....

I wonder if there is more to the temp than just what the display says. My old tub I would crank to 104 and it did not feel as hot as my Tiger River does at 101. I wonder if:

- Display temps are inacccurate (I have verified my current tub's tub with another hand held thermometer) I wonder if some folks are sitting in 100 degree water thinking it's 106 simply because thier tubs display says so or vice versa (geez my tub is only set at 95 degrees and I'm getting 2nd degree burns.

2) insulation and heat loss If it's a windy night, any exposed skin is losing heat quicker (wind chill) as well as the tub. Turning up the temp obviolsy provides more heat and is more comfortable. However, I wonder if some tubs are better than others in this area (Surface area of the water, insualtion and placement of where the tub actualy monitiors the water temp, and recovery time?)

Mine is at 98 degrees F, now. In the summer I keep it at 86 degrees F. Turning the temp up and down day to day would probably use more energy than leaving it alone. Actually, I have found that to be true for my central AC during the summer months. These things probably vary with the season and the climate. I live in Southern Florida. You might want to check with your utility company for their recommendation.

We keep ours at 101 in the summer and this winter we tried 104 and like it for the cold Ohio nights. I just set it and forget it, no up and down temp changes.

Usually 102 for longer soaks. If it's really cold, I will bump it to 104 an hour before I use it.
