okay to override the 104 temp for 05 maxxus ?
« on: January 06, 2006, 03:10:49 pm »
newbie question....

is it okay to overide the factory 104 temp sensor ?  are there any drawbacks to doing it beside a higher electrical bill ?

the tub has a hard time holding the 102-103 temp and would like to keep it set at 104-105...

is this because it is a bigger tub ?

thanks for your help..

How do intend to do this?
If you get too creative you might risk invalidating your warranty if you messing with the control panel damages something.

Or are you just resetting the jumpers?

My spa has the jumper.  I didn't ask for it but it's there.  I can set it to a temp as high as 108 (ort1 / ort2 / ort3 / ort4).  I do not use this feature, as when I want 104, and set the tub to 104 it stays at 103 or 104.  There have been times that I want to cool it off to 101 or 102, because I'm getting too hot to stay in.  I turn the heater setting down, turn on all the jets with air valves open, and turn on the blower.  It takes forever to drop even 1 degree.  I have seen a number of people having problems with the numbers they are seeing on the display.  They feel the water is too cool, and who am I to judge?  My only suggestion is to keep in mind the health risks associated with soaking for too long at elevated temps (even 104), and especially pay attention to this if you have small children, as the core temp of a small child can rise to dangerously high temps faster than that of an adult.  Hyperthermia that could result is considered a life-threatening condition.  Just be aware of the risks if you choose to override and run at these elevated temps.

Mike, call your dealer and tell him your temp will not get up to 104°.

As for the override, other than the health issues stated there are no drawbacks, but I really don't think you will enjoy the water at 106° or higher, and I wonder if you really want to expose your family to that temperature.  If your body was at that temperature, you would belong in the hospital.

Electrical cost difference, none.

Bigger tub, NO

It sounds more like your temp sensor needs to be replaced.  What kind of tub is it and what are you wired for? ???

I understand exactly what you are saying.  Programming varies among spas. Some shut off the instant they hit the set temp so you may rarely see that temp.   I am with you, there are times when a soak at 104 is the most -perfect thing in the world.    I see no problem with setting a tub to 105 so you have it at 104.

My Dynasty is programmed to run the heater for a given time after the set temp is reached with an override if the temp hits 1 degree over it shuts off.

thanks for the info...

the tube is a 05 sundance maxxus.

the spa is wired at 220v and 60 amp fuse and is set at factory setting ( 4 cycles at 1/2 hour interval)

the dealer was out today and swapped the settings so it can  be turned up...

should it be able to reach 104 at factory settings or..
is it  what wmccall said  ? the tub shuts off soon as the set temp is reached..

we ran it at 105 tonite and it came down to 104 with the jets going...

You are experiencing the reality of what it is.  But, I would expect the water to be at 104° when the temp is set at 104°.  While the override will elevate the temperature, the temp sensor should be the item that should be looked at if you are unable to set and get the same number.

When the jets are on high, it should make a difference, you heater is capable to be on 100%of the time.  However, there is a 2° swing to activate the heater.  Meaning the temperature must dropp 2° before the heater activates.

My Sundance spa actually reads the water temperature.  If I have it set to 102, it reads 102, or lower.  But it will reach the temperature I've set.
Mine is an Optima, but they have to be pretty similar here.
