Beachcomber FL issue
« on: November 19, 2005, 12:37:10 pm »
Having an issue with my 3 month old Beachcomber 580 hot tub, the display is showing a solid FL and nothing will work.  I checked the manual and the solid FL means it is a pressure switch problem and to call your dealer.  I called the dealer and he is coming out to fix it on Monday.  Does any know if there is something I can do to fix it sooner?

By the way a flashing FL would mean the filter needs to be cleaned.

With the old pressure switches, you could have recallibrated it. In 2003, they swithced to a pressure switch that does not have an adjust ment on it.

Not sure if unplugging it from the board would help. You'll likely have to go hot tubless for the weekend.

HotTubMan,

Thanks for the info, looks like I am waiting for the dealer.  Do you have any idea what could cause a problem like this?

Pressure switches seem to be a common issue (I just got mine replaced on my 2 year old Dynasty.  They are a safety feature to prevent you from burning up more expensive parts.

Its a flo switch problem  my buddy had the same prob on his 578
he has a copy of the service manual this is what you can do to troubleshoot
this is directly from the book:
1.make sure your water is at least half way up the skimmer wall to avoid air 2.make sure the jets that are supplied by the hush pump are open if closed it reduces flow and causes the switch to flutter3.make sure all knife valves are fully open4.put tub on standby and remove filter then run tub without filter if reading is gone time for a new filter.

if none of the above work then your flow switch in the clear T is faulty

I ve heard this is a common problem with flow switches
hope it helps

Bill described its purpose. Unfortunately these switches fail more often than the occurence they are designed to protect you against occurs. Did that make sense?

This why Balboa (maker of the spa pak on your tub)designed the M-7 system. Rather than a flimsy mechanical switch, temperature sensors are mounted at the entry and exit of the heater tube. If the temperature variance exceeds set limits, the system shuts down.

Beachcomber could put M-7's on their 700 series tubs for about $50 more per unit. They don't.

An FL code could also be that there is a flow restriction. Have you pulled out your filters and cleaned them out? There might be leaves or other debris located in the pump as well and unfortuantly for most dealers and manufactors, that is not covered under warranty, so you might want to check if it isn't too late, before somebody comes out to check it out. Have you also tried unplugging the tub or flipping the breaker off and then turning it back on, it could just be a fluk in the computer system!

Dealer came on Monday and replaced the pressure switch.  A flashing FL indicates a dirty or clogged filter a solid FL indicates a bad pressure switch.
