I know I can paste from Word, but hey, Mr/Ms Moderators - can we incorporate spell check into the direct posting process?  ::)

I have iespell and it does an OK job. I think it did something to my spell check on outlook express, athough I am running XP home addition - I was told XP stands for Xtra Problems!

IESPELL is a nice program. Unfortunately it only works with IE. I'm still trying to find a decent spell check for Firefox

I've not even *tried* this, but things at SourceForge are usually good... give this a try!

Let me know if you have questions, and I'll try to help!

The classic response to a thread about spell checkers is to put in the post that has all the words spelled correctly, but just not being the words you *should* be putting in that sentence...  ;D

I keep Microsoft Word open and simply copy/paste to that, spell check and the copy/paste back. It takes about 5 seconds longer than it would if the checker was here but you have to make due with what you have. BTW, mine is not a spell checker, it is a fat finger typo checker.

One comment on MS Word.. I dunno about this board, but some don't like the special characters Word uses (like smart quotes, em-dashes, etc.).  I think even here they turn into unprintables.... let me try an experiment:

“These words have smart (curly) quotes around them”

Nope, looks like they are converted to normal quotes... cool!  (Many times in email that is text-only, those characters turn into boxes or other unprintables...)

Never mind...

Let's test that theory.

I like ice cream more than sardines. I prefer Tommy Boy over Steel Magnolias. I prefer the pictures in Playboy over the articles. I hate the Yankees. I would quit my job if I won $50,000,000 in the lottery.

How'd we match up?

LOL, maybe we can invent a "MANLY" checker that checks to be sure that what you type is sufficiently macho.

For instance, if you were to type

"I have to go pick out wallpaper with my wife before I can come watch the game tonight"

it'll convert it to

"I might be a few minutes late cause I got some business to take care of with the wife before the game, IF you know what I mean"!

Google has a spell check in their new toolbar.  It spell checks forms including this reply area.
