That's too bad as he comes across as such a decent guy. Hopefully all will be well but I can't help but wonder if he'll change his mind about wearing a helmet now? Before I think he was comparing how it feels to ride a bike with a helmet versus how it feels to ride without one. Now maybe he'll compare how it feels to crash without a helmet versus how it would have felt if he'd have been wearing one.

I think what you're wondering is right.  I believe Terry Bradshaw told him at one point that if he wanted to drive a motorcyle, he could do it when he retires.

Still no word on his condition but if he's unable to return to football, will be a real waste of incredible talent, imho.

Not a Steelers fan, but I do ride motorcycles, and I cringe every time I hear about an accident.  This morning someone hit a deer and was killed.
Last week 2 teenagers were on one and crashed the day of their graduation from high school.  They'll both survive, but they're in serious condition.
Driver of the motorcycle was breaking several laws- he was on a learners permit with a passenger and no helmet- both illegal.
The ironic thing was that they were struck by a fellow classmate who violated their right of way by turning in front of them.

I was once ready to buy a motorcycle, but I now believe they can't be ridden safely in an urban area.  This isn't the rider's fault, but people are too aggresive and impatient.

When I was ready to buy I was sitting at a red light minding my own business when the guy behind me forgot to stop.  Bad luck for him. Had I been on a bike, I'd probably be dead.  Someday if I buy a house in the country maybe.

I was never a fan of motorcycles because (as my kids say) I am a spazo and have a great amount of fear of riding on a highway totally unprotected. My kids however constantly pester to have a dirt bike because many of our close friends ride motocross. Their kids have dirt bikes and quads and race at various tracks on the east coast. Riding on the track takes away the element of aggressive drivers on a highway or inattentive drivers who pose a great hazard to motorcyclists...and the riders have the best in gear and helmets....so I thought. My girlfriend's son (13 years old) was in a very serious accident on his dirt bike about 4 weeks ago. He has just been transfered to a rehab facility with a trach (he has a broken neck and can't breathe on his own), a feeding tube, and he has not regained movement in either his arms or legs. He wasn't racing, just took a jump wrong....ironically one of his motocross friends is in the same rehab with similar injuries. I don't really think there is a way to be protected on a motorcycle, but I understand that many folks just love them and are willing to take the risk. :-/
My kids have changes their minds...

As a PAts Fan, the steelers are definately not my favorite teams. :P

But all silly rivalry aside, I wish the best for  Ben and his familly.

I heard this morning he had a lot of damage to his head and face (broken jaw and nose among many other things).   He will be out of commision for a least 2 months. PErsonaly,  I doubt he' play this season, but at least he is alive and will recover.

Early reports of knee injuries have been false?  Or maybe that was just abrasions? Will the lady that hit him be charged with Roughing the passer? Offsides? Illegal use of a Cadillac?  That woman is going to be in a relocation program soon.

NFL.com had this blurb...

"....But according to those close Roethlisberger, he did break his jaw, his nose, chip his teeth and suffer various lacerations to his cheek and knees.

I think it's too early to really say anthing about his game days.

I think your right. From what I read the 2 months quoted is for normal use of face and jaw. However, playing QB in the NFL is far from normal.  But I would guess 2 months might be good for non-contact drills common in summer camp.  I'd purely speculate he might be ready by first week of the regular season

Two healthy athletes run at eachother full steam in full gear maybe at top speed 10 MPH and wouldn't dream of doing it with out a helmet, man on a machine that can travel at speeds over 100 mph, but wont wear a helmet  ??? I'm glad he's going to be ok, but I think he needs his head re examined. I laid my 750 down at about 45 mph. It was either that or go dead on into oncoming traffic. Wearing full leathers and a helmet. Good thing cuz I rolled for a good 50 yards. I'm sure it was quite spectacular for the people in the cars that got to witness it! suffice to say, that was my last riding day. It still amazes me when I see riders on the highway with nothing but shorts and sunglasses on to protect them.

Yup- ball cap on backwards, shorts, sandals, no shirt (eewww...) and just shades to protect the face.

One of my old black full face helmets has a nice long white 10" long scratch right the middle of the back.  I carelessly clipped a curb at a relatively slow speed, ended up flying over the bike, doing a summersault on the sidewalk- which is what scratched the helmet.
That would have been my skull had I not been wearing my helmet.  I still have that helmet- I don't wear it anymore, since once you hit you toss, but it reminds me still of what could have happened.
I know there is freedom to choose and all, but I just don't understand why you'd take the risk.
I've been smacked in the head by insects, small rocks, and the like several times while going 60 mph.
That happens quite a bit.

He is a friggin idiot!!  I hope his career is over.

Personally, I feel his insurance shouldn't pay out because he wasn't doing everything in his power to reduce/prevent injury.

Also heard he wasn't even licensed.

r100rs

Sorry to be so blunt about it, but I have no sympathy for stupidity.

I have been riding for 30 years and have had to lay down a bike twice.  One was my one fault being in- experienced and the other one I had know choice. (oil on the road with a sharp left)
