Does Rainwater Cause Foam?
« on: October 20, 2004, 01:13:43 pm »
Yesterday was my weekly shock day. I left the tub uncovered for about an hour while I ran the jets and went inside. When I came out it was evident that it had been raining for some period of time and I had a fair amount of foam gathering. Or is this just a coincidence?

As a rule I would say rain water does not cause foaming. As for the rain water where ypu live....well who knows. Air pollutants vary from city to city, state to state and country to country.

Typically, the users of the hottub create foam not anything else.  I would doubt that rainwater created it.  Why not turn the spa on one night when it isn’t raining and see if you get foam?

What does cause foam?  I've had my HS Grandee 2 days now and tonight while the jets were running there was foam.  After turning the jets off the foam went away.  I was just wondering what was causing it.

Detergent runoff from your swim suits is one cause.

Emulsified oils from your skin, oils from other products, organic compounds, etc. are other causes.

Shampoo left in your hair is another.  I try to tell my kids to keep their hair out of the water.  My kids still take baths and I highly doubt the shampoo is being rinsed out completely.  I do not have a water softener and I am told that hard water will also prevent all of the shampoo to be rinsed out properly.
