Author Topic: Use 2-litre pop to shock (Read 3162 times)

Windsurfdog came up the idea to use empty 12oz cans in cozies laid on their side to prop the cover. I was about to go a step beyond and cut some white PVC pipe to fit in the cozies (fancy fancy!)

Instead I grabbed 2 empty litre pop bottles (lazy lazy!) One under each side of the cover. They provide great cushion and hold the cover up a couple inches. The leaves blowing everywhere were winning the war until I tried this. Now I prop it to shock or just during the post-soak clean cycle and no leaves in the tub.

Good point. The fumes from oxidizing will do the most damage if they are trapped between your water and cover. Just let them out and mission accomplished.

I stilll think this method may be stlightly harmful to the cover. It would be minimal if measurable.

Well guys..... and gals, I hate to tell you, but it just doesn't work that way. I use to open only half the cover when shocking, thinking the fumes would escape and not effect the cover. Over a period of about 3 years the side of the cover that faced the spa gained about 30 more pounds of weight that the side I flipped over.

But it still works well for venting excess heat in the summer.......

When I was younger I used empty vodka bottles to prop open the spa cover but nowadays I use empty plastic 2-liter Diet Pepsi bottles.

Empty beer kegs will allow for a bit more ventitation.
