Electric run to Hot Tub
« on: July 17, 2020, 09:26:28 pm »
We are getting our first hot tub and we have an electric question.

We had an electrician come out today to look at running the electric to our hot tub. They indicated they would run the electric from the house to a GFCI box a least 5 feet away then run conduit to the hot tub in PVC. Our basement is unfinished so they can run the wiring mostly inside the basement then out to the GFCI box.

I asked if they would need to dig and they indicated that it did not need to be buried. Just not sure if that is accurate?

Does anyone know if the conduit has to be buried or not?

It does not need to be buried.  But if the conduit is going to run on a surface where people might step on it, or if you live in the snow belt and might be hitting it with a snow shovel, the conduit should be rigid pipe and not PVC.
