Ace Salt Water System
« on: March 19, 2017, 12:22:58 pm »
So I got my new Grandee 5 days ago and I have some questions about Ace.  I have it on level 8, and it's barely producing chlorine.  I've had to add a tablespoon of chlorine each day to get the water to 3 ppm.  If I don't touch the water, it tests around .5 ppm.  We have been using it twice per day with 2 people.

Any advice on how to properly tune the settings would be great.

Thanks!

I’m no expert but how many gallons is your tub and how much salt did you start with? What does your dealer say?

450 gallons and I added 6 cups of salt.  Plus they added salt when we filled the tub.  I'm going to call the dealer Monday.

Hardness 50 ppm
PH 6.8

Don't know anything about phosphate removal.

Thanks

What is your salt level?  Your calcium is good as is alkalinity but the ph needs to be adjusted to about 7.4. If your salt level is below 1500ppm that needs to be adjusted as well

How much salt did the dealer add?  According to the ace directions your tub should need about 9-10 cups of salt to get in range. As twin cities mentioned test the phosphates As well. If they are high or even present this will prevent you from generating the proper amount of chlorine. This is a prevalent problem with swimming pools. I don't work with a lot of spa sAlt systems but I imagine phosphates would cause similar issues

The salt level is around 1000 ppm.  When they filled the tub, the water went through a large blue canister that they added salt to.  I have since added 6 cups of salt.

How do I check for phosphates?

They sell strips but most people just have it tested for at a local spa/pool supply store. Sounds like your main problem is low salt level

Will a low salt level prevent Ace from producing chlorine?  I currently have the output set at 9 trying to get the chlorine level up.

Yes until the salt is at the proper level you won't be producing chlorine

Where is the status test?  Yellow-Green-Red?

6 cups sounds to little for a Grandee.  If the status is in the yellow or the red, it won't turn your ACE system on until you put it in the green.

Yellow means - to little salt -or- filters dirty -or- cell dirty - or- temperature to low.
Red means - to much salt

I'm now at 2000 ppm after adding a total of 9 cups of salt.  I'm currently in the bottom 10% of the green band.

you're on track...just keep the calcium below 75 ppm and I would educate yourself or have your dealer educate you about phosphate removal, it will help the ACE perform optimally

good luck!
