Hot Spring Grandee price?
« on: February 09, 2016, 02:22:54 pm »
Where should I be, approximately?  I have a dealer that's quoting me $12.5.  Says that retail is about $15.

Thanks!

Where do you live?
Everything is going up and or should have gone up unless it is a 2015 model clearance. (Ontario)

Thanks.  A 2015 clearance.  I'm in NJ.

Seems a little high, certainly not a great deal.

Anyone else have pricing feedback?

I would say that is a good price. I was offered 12,150 with no rebate (not nxt). From my research that is a fair price. Some of the deals people say they are getting on here make me feel like I have zero negotiating skills, though.

Considering 2015 was only a month ago how long have they had the spa?  If it's been ran and a showroom model I would expect more off,  and if it  was October 2016 I would expect even more of a discount as well.

Make an offer, with cash and see if they take it.

My quote was for a 2016 factory order, so after rereading I'd say to the OP that that dealer needs to sharpen his pencil a little.

Depends what his overhead is and then there's supply and demand.

In Minnesota a Grandee (NXT or "standard") sells for $12,000 - $13,500 depending on options, approximately

as Jim stated...your order has 0 to do with OP's order...location, overhead, dealer margin, etc. these are not cars people....If you're located in New York, you can't pull up an App on your phone and expect to get within $300 of the guy buying a Honda Accord in San Diego....and also "Factory Order" means nothing, its on the same level as "Factory Sale" "Truckload Sale" "Factory Clearance" etc. etc. its simply a made up sales term to create urgency, technically everything down to replacement fuses are a "Factory Order"

By "factory order" I mean that they don't have one sitting in a warehouse that they can deliver today. I don't know if it works like the car business or not, but I had assumed that if they don't have one in stock, they order one from HotSpring in the colors and options you desire after you pay them, then they build it. I could be wrong because I've never been in the business.

My experience is merely that of a consumer who hasn't bought anything yet, so I truly defer to the experts and dealers on this forum who know more than I ever will about it. :) Based on my geeking out on this purchase, the $12K quote I got for a 2016 (even though it looks like no different than a "2015", I'm sure the 2016 will depreciate just as quickly) seems like a fair price but not the deal of the century. As others have stated, YMMV. Again, I am not as hard-nosed as some of the savvy consumers on here who seem to get crazy low prices on stuff. More power to them.

Edit*
Oh, and I am in SW Washington state.

So I am in NW Washington state.  When we order a spa in, it cost less to get to our door than a dealer in NJ.   That in it's self could add just guessing a few hundred dollars.   Not to mention it also cost more to live and do business in NJ than it does to in SW Washington.    You should have went down to Oregon and bought one there, no sales tax. But you probably would have had to pick it up?

Jim: The tax thing is a whole other subject and interesting enough to discuss. I don't want to hijack the OP's thread, though, I'll start another topic.

Interesting, though, that the dealers have to pay different shipping based on location. Totally not like the car biz, where even if you live next door to the assembly line you pay the same destination charges as somebody 2000 miles away! Same thing as if you buy a widget at Costco or Best Buy, the guy in Florida pays the same as the guy in Washington state. I didn't know that about hot tubs. It would definitely make a difference. So if you are in San Diego and you buy a tub made in Tijuana, do you pay less than I would up here?

I would think so.   Its why a lot of dealers on the east coast ship by rail and always try and lump a load of spas together. We get a price break at like 9 to 11 spa's, 8 and less we pay around 300 to 350 a spa I think.  Been awhile since I have dealt with that part of the biz.

So, this is a good target? - $12k if it's a new 2016, and $11k for a leftover 2015.  Cash.
