In engineer friend of my swears by UV systems for home use.  He has installed a number of them commercially.  I am on well water and have a sand filter, acid reducing filter and a water softener.  When I have a little time (most likely after I retire), I will be installing a UV system, as well.   I don't know what it is you are trying to remove from your water, so you will have to do some research to see what type of system will work best for you.   Good luck!

Purification is best done with chlorine. There are plenty of ways to supplement chlorine but nothing can purify better. If you want to be sure you have clean water chlorine has to be used. You can use other systems but then you have to assume.

But bromine requires constant additions as in a floater or generator and isn't the halogen in Bromine the same as in Chlorine?

Purification is different from sanitation. Maybe that's the confusion.
