I have been told I have to use 6-3 conductor wire for my tub. I have some 8-3 wire and some 6-4 wire. Can I use the 8-3 and if not can I use the 6-4 and only use three of the wires.

ok so 5 min on the internet and it sas that 8-3 is good for 40 amps and 6-3 is good for 50 amps barely. you guys are that clueless.......

I just wired mine and was told #6 is what to use. And yes you can run the 6-4 and not use the one wire. But are you sure it's a 6-4? The ground isn't considered one of the wires. You will either have a 6-2 with 2 leads or a 6-3 with 2 leads and a neutral.

Maybe if you gave more information like brand, model you would've gotten more. Responses. It should tell you n the schematic what to use

Your Jacuzzi wont need the neutral wire , from you main panel to the GFCI you will. So 4 wires from the main to the GFCI and 3 wires to the spa. #6 for the main run should work, then #8 from the GFCI to the spa. I just ran #6 all the way on mine.

Advice on electrical wiring questions can be tricky/risky. Codes vary and if you listen to sombody that doesn't have a clue about it and you fry your circuit board and or yourself, you are not gonna be happy, or will never hear from you again....

With your attitude I'm surprised you're getting -any- advice. Its not as if the internet owes you a thing. That said, if you spent 2 minutes searching this board for wiring questions you'd have your answer.

Depends on the tub, you may need 2 or 3 + ground going to the tub. But considering how basic a question this is, go hire an electrician so you don't burn your house down.

Insulated ground is also more than likely required. So "6-4" dosent really mean its the correct wire to use.

GREEN insulated ground (can't wrap a wire with green tape)...equal in size to the other wires.

Electricity and water, not really something to say this "should be good".
Mine has 6-3 MC cable with insulated ground from the breaker box to the GfCI box next to the tub. Then 6ga (black,red,green - no white neutral) to the tub in water tight PVC conduit.

Standard romex home wire does not have the insulated green ground, also 6ga romex not rated to 60amp.

awesome thanks guys. I work in commercial construction and have some 6/4 AWG cab tire that will work for the app.
I will let you know if I burn the house down haha,
