$400 is this possible

My boss has a home in the Poconoes PA.  He said that he was near the ski mountain and they were selling brand new 6 person tubs for $400.   I said you mean $4,000 no he said $400 Is this possible?

I sold a tub about twenty five years ago called an "Encon" which was an open thermoplastic tub with no seats, and it had a simple circ pump and heater, no jets, plywood siding and 2x10 wood lip. It was around $500 at the time.

It came with no insulated cover, and most of the ones I saw had a blue bubble cover. They would not stay warm in cold climates.

I don't know what you could get today for that price.

HA! This was the same FIRST spa I had. A big black plastic rectangular box. No bench, and 1 jet. Insulated it by filling between the spa and skirting with styrophome packing peanuts. Made a cover out of plywood, 6" thick, filled with the same styrophome packing peanuts (it was so heavy I had a block and tackle system to open it). Heated it with a 90k btu AO Smith gas heater...You couldn't sit in front of THE jet when the heater came on.

Oh, Did better than $500 though. Got it for free, as well as the pump and heater.

Yes, I have seen a few of the "one jet wonder" models - with the gas heat option. They had to have a larger pump to be able to move the water through the gas heater, so they put the one jet in. Some folks would put an insulated cover on top of the thing, but the wood lip would soon rot out once it was enclosed in the hot, moist environment along with the hot water.

I had one of those portable (Blown up type) hot tubs.
It was very nice and conveniant...BUT it cost me $175.00 a month to run it.

We have a SPa-n-a-box and love it. The thing has handled four NY winters...I put it up for about three weeks two seasons ago and only noticed a $20-23 difference in my bill.. guessing it was due to the hot tub.

Or that winter was warmer than the previous and your tub was actually triple that and you couldn't see it.
