06 GRANDEE PROBLEM NEED HELP PLEASE.....
« on: June 16, 2008, 12:50:32 pm »
have a 06 grandee and everytime i do a water change my water is crystal clear for
about a month. after that my spa water goes bad and i get a green tint and its cloudy.
i rotate the filters once a month but i just dont understand why the water goes bad only after
one month. i verified that the ozone works and i do weekly routine maintenence. can anyone
chas or tex give me some insight on this. do i have to wash the filters once a month. i hate cloudy water.
oh by the way, when i do add chlorine its clears up but for only like 3 days....please advise...

Steelman, what part of the country are you in. I'm no spa tech but it sounds like algae to me.

I'm not Chas or Termie but is certainly sounds like you're not meeting your chlorine demand. Can you give a more detailed post on your weekly maintenance regime? Are you shocking? What is the reading after shocking? What do you keep your chlorine at regularly and what are you using? Filters can only do so much... if your water balance isn't right, you can clean the filters daily and it won't matter...

Alkalinity? Calcium hardness? TDS out of the tap? Useage?

i chlorinate 1x aweek..whatever it is for 500 gallons. i test once a week and notice my ph is between 7.6 and 7.8 and total alk somewhere around 115...it all is within normal range...maybe i need to shock and chlorinate more often or shock more often....prior to shocking the chlorine reading is zero

Do you use the Freshwater Nature2 cartridge?
How often do you use the spa?  Do you add anything with each use?

CHLORINE EACH TIME...MAYBE THATMAY HELP....IT JUST SUCKS THAT AFTER 1 MONTH

Yes, try adding chlorine with each use.  Try using the weekly MPS dose.  See what that does.

AHHHHH, this is EXACTLY while I roll my eyes at those ridiculous N2 instructions. They go that MPS/use route so they can sell it as you using minimal chlorine. There is one problem with that; it doesn't work well.

This is what I tell all first time users as well as those who've already tried one the the many "this will use less of those horrible chemicals that kill bunnies and flowers" methods:

add 1 generous teasponns/person after each soak (without fail),
shock once per week with MPS
check PH/Alk once per week
clean filters monthly, rinse as needed

If it ever gets cloudy (whether you've slipped on the routine or not) just hit it extra hard with chlorine but it should occur seldom if you follow through with the per use chlorine.

We have hundreds if not thousands of customers who successfully use the MPS with each use and and shock weekly with chlorine. :)

I can see minimal users getting by on it but I personally see it fail for new users (who obviously use it multiple times a week when its new) regularly.

I noticed you said you rotate your filters once a month.  Then you asked if you need to clean your filters once a month.

How often are you actually taking out your filters and cleaning them?  You should be cleaning them once a month.  Maybe a little more if you use the spa a lot or maybe a little less if you don't use it so much.  But you should be cleaning them.

A good filtration system and good ozone will help a lot but at the same time, if you're not sanitizing enough you're going to run into this situation.

I ROTATE THE FILTERS AND CLEAN THEM ONCE EVERY 1.5 MONTHS. I PROBABLY  NEED TO STEP THOSE
CLEANINGS UP. I WILL START TO ADD CHLORINE AFTER I SOAK. IS THAT SUFFICIENT. CAN I ADD CHLORINE AFTER I SOAK AND KEEP THE JETS ON FOR 10 MIN OR SO...HEY THANX FOR EVERYONE CHIMING IN.
