building your own hot tub?

Hello, I'm doing the 'look around everywhere' thing for a hot tub.  Came across a site offering plans for in-ground spas; the designer is Gene Trumbull and his site is ftp://http://www.custombuiltspas.com/.  The layout looks a lot like most of the 'get my e-book' web offers, but its an intriguing concept.  Next I'm trying to see if the idea is a realistic option or more headaches than its worth.

I looked around this forum and did a search for both keywords but didn't find anything.  Wondering if anyone else has gotten these books/knows anything or if anyone has tried making their own hot tub (I realize that sounds weird).

Any info/advice appreciated.

I'm sure he's a nice guy and means well. In fact, I get the feeling that he firmly believes that the tubs you make out of cement block and plaster are just as comfortable, efficient, well designed and effective as one you could buy from a dealer. Just not as expensive.

It seems like this is for the people who dream of owning a spa but don't want to pay the money for it.  Not that I blame them.   I would look on craigs list and get a good used one instead.

I liked the idea of it adding equity to the home.  Also, I could relate to the sales BS.  Lastly, he made some technical points about design flaws in some brands which seemed to make sense.

Benalexe....but rather than build your own how could someone beat the brand
new 40 jet  $2999 spa you spoke about at Costco if it was entirely a money issue?

Zep, that link is to a $3,499.99 model that has 46 jets.  CostCo does have a 2 person model for $2,600 w/ 10 jets.
