J 325

I am getting ready to purchase my 2nd spa.  I currently have a VITA SPA which is at least 10 yrs old.  I purchased it new and have had very few problems with it.  Obviously the new spas are completely different than what I have and am now having trouble deciding what to buy.  

 

I am looking for a 4-5 person spa and have about $5,000 to spend.  I think I have narrowed it down to a Jacuzzi 325 (not sure I can get it for $5,000??)  I don’t need/want all of the bells and whistles, just looking for a good reliable spa in the $5,000 range.  Any suggestions??

 

Finally, is it worth the $$$ to upgrade to the J 345?

I really like the J-325 and we sell quite a few they run here 6495.00 but as you may have noticed areas vary,the 345 is of course bigger and has a few more bells and whistles extra pump few more jets.  in your price you may check out the J-230 or the J-270,J-280  in the 5 to 6000 range.

Thanks for responding.  I don't believe the J 200 series has a circulation pump.  How important is this?

 Well it is nice to have as far as filtration goes, it is an option on the J-280/J-270.

How does the HS Prodigy compare to the J 325?

 I think they are pretty close the HS is a little bigger and a few more jets with probably a higher price tag to go with it.   You have had a spa before,so my advice would be go check them out and wet test the ones you are interested in,if your really stuck on a specific budget, find what works with that and wet test spas in your price line.  Make sure the dealer is good also!!

Nordic tubs are one of the best in that price range, especially if you want a deep one (and especially a round one).

Why are you looking to get rid of a perfectly fine (I'm assuming here) spa that's 10 YO with a new low end spa? I would think that it's almost an equal trade.

I don't know what your Vita has but a $5000 or $6000 spa doesn't have much in it IMO. I could see a trade up to a $10,000 spa. Even the spa I bought in 2005 (with a 2004 price of about $6500) is now at a level that I may not buy it today. I am hoping the spa lasts longer than 10 years and if and when I sell my house (kids grow up and move away) with the tub maybe then upgrading to a higher end tub.

I'm just being curious.

  The HS Prodigy is a very nice tub, I woudn't call it a low end spa.

I am not sure what model VITA Spa I have.  I am sure it was middle to low end when I bought it.  It has 1 whirlpool jet, 4 other jets and 2 small neck jets.  It has the old wheel with tabs that you pull out or push in to turn the heater on.  Am going to have to put some $$$ into it now, and am thinking a new one is where I should put my $$$.

1 - I never said that the 300 series is low end but a J325 is not on the higher end of the 300 series - do you agree? In the scheme of things it is not a high end Jacuzzi spa. There are 4 levels of the 300 series above it and then the 400 series.

2 - I did say I don't know what his/her Vita spa has.

Don't be so touchy, I am being courious. I have an Artesian Island series spa - I don't believe it is at the same level as a Piper Glen, it was what I was willing to spend and had the features I wanted. I forget what spa you have although I know it is a Jacuzzi but all companies have different levels some even within the same lines.

I am also one that doesn't requires new things. All of the cars I owned have been around for a long time, I don't flip houses, I was wathiching a 10 YO CRT TV and I expect to keep my spa for as long as I'm in this house. I bought my wife a new car this year (I was upset as it only lasted 8 years) and compared to what she had in her old car it definately is an upgrade. I wanted to keep the car for at least another 2 years but it was time to get a new one. My TV blew and I bought a $850 LCD TV and personally it is a waste when a HD CRT TV could probably been had for less but this is the techlology that is here today. I feel the same with everything - changing is a waste of money and changing to barely get any benefits is a total waste - $850 to watch TV is a total waste of my money. But these are my opinions!

I agree, when spending money it is sometimes wiser to put the money into a new unit than repairing an older unit.

Unfortunately, I used the term "low end" and it was a poor choice of words on my part.  On this forum those are bad words when describing a tub!   In mainstream spas (not costco, walmart) $5000 doesn't get much if anything these days. When I was shoppng in 2004, $5000 didn't get much either and I bought my spa for about $6500 when I originally started with the same budget as you. Today I believe my spa is selling at around $8000 or so. As I said, I don't know if I would buy my spa at that price.

I just purchased the J 325.  Got it for $5,000 + tax.  I feel pretty good about it, and think I got a good spa for a good price.
