Help...lint?? in tub
« on: November 29, 2005, 08:20:15 pm »
I am looking for some help from the "masters" of the spa world out there!

We have had our tub set up for about 2 months now and all has been well (spatopia!) pretty much since the beginning.  In the last week or so we have had a problem.   It appears to be "lint". This "lint" catches on the intake ports of the tub.  When we enter the tub, we clear off the ports and all is well until the next time we use the tub.  For the most part we enjoy the tub "au natural" so I don't understand where this is coming from.

Any suggestions would be appreciated!

It's a new tub, all kind of things are in there from the factory, time to drain, fill & clean.

Does it have consistency like lint or does it disintegrate when you touch it?

It could be a water mold.....

What kind of spa?

do you have a microban filter in your tub.  if so check the filter, if your tub is two months old you may find that the filter is breaking down.

If so you should see a white almost see threw color material gathering.

Thats what I suspect.  My dealer said that the first three months, the filter takes a beating, beacuse your body oils are getting use to the tub, over use from new users and all of their friends, soaps in suits, and creams, lotions and other things on our body.

I would say either try a new filter, or maybe a water change if the weather is right.

That is my guess.

I've heard of these little nylon sock things that you can put over the intakes.....thought I read about it here. Someone complained about them coming off when their kids were in the tub, and someone replied that it's a stupid fix my a manufacturer for blah, blah....

anyhow, I thought the were a neat idea, once I realized every little bit of hair and junk accumulates on the intakes........I'm a hairy fella, and I tend to shed.  :o

Right away you should go out and by a HotSpring spa because they don't use intakes!! Just kidding! I would just drain it and clean the filters and shell and then refill it. That should take care of the problem. When spas are tested at the factory debris could be left inside the plumbing. I seriously doubt that bellybutton lint is the problem. Let us know how you make out!
