Hard Water - Any treatments??
« on: October 03, 2005, 02:41:38 pm »
I'm a new hot tub owner.  I've been following the forum for a while both before I bought and since and I think the advice and exchange of info is great.

I bought a Dimension 1, @ Home Dream HP in June.  Everything was great for a month, but we have been getting a brown foam and red/brown discoloration of the jets and filter area.  This only happened after we started adding water from our well water (which we know is hard from discoloration of our shower fixtures).

Is there any treatment or chemical routine that can help clear this out?   ???

Manganese? Can you look back at a well water test? If not get one done. Go to your local plumber/ plumbing store, they'll give you a bottle to fill and they'll send it out. Or a spa retailer who can test for metals in your source water.

If it's iron, if can be sequestered using stain and scale control(BioGuard product), or others like  metal out, metal gone.

Add 1/4 cup initial dose. then use two to three capfuls per week.

If it's manganese, most sequestering type chemicals do not help. Good luck, let us know how you make out.

:)Thanks for the info.  I have been using Stain and Scale control, but I haven't been doing it regularly.  I will try the Metal Gone/Metal Out.  Are these available at Spa stores?  Do you know who the manufacturer is?

Also, I have been using Di-Chlor as my sanitizer.  Will this make any difference?

Thanks,

get the residual back up with a healthy dose, then add some weekly.
