this is one small step for me...

Wow, it’s really great to have you “protubbers” to rely on for information! With my installation date approaching I’m trying to finalize the last details. My new deck will encompass the tub on three sides. My plan is to be able to step into the tub directly from the deck. In your opinions what would be the ideal height of the deck if the tub is 29 inches high? In other words should the deck go 10’’, 12’’, 15’’ up the side? Any other thoughts on the matter would be appreciated.

The deck should be the same height as what you're stepping on in the spa.
If you can't sell it on eBay, it may not even qualify as landfill.

Retired (mostly) from the industry after 33 years...but still putzing around with a consumer information website, and trying to sell obsolete owners manuals

That is how I have mine.  The deck is the same height as the step inside the spa where I enter.

I recommend to people that they should leave 12 to 18 inches above the deck as it is easier to set on the side and swing your legs over to get in and out. It will also deter children (or adults for that matter) and animals from getting on your cover. I've seen people that only leave a few inches out of the deck and then wonder why squirrels and mice tear up their covers.

Just wondering - if your spa is about 18 inches above the ground, will people tend to sit on it.  Can the cover take people sitting on it?

That 12 to 18 inches I recommended would be about 3 feet by Doc's standard of measure! ;) ;D

I wouldn't let anyone sit on my spa cover.  They're too expensive to take the chance.  Unless you have an Arctic Spa cover, in which case you can (apparently) have several adults stroll across the cover.

Correction Brewman!

You can have an entire show team of sales guys/gals on that cover. This is very important for those times you go to home show and happen to drag an entire sales team back to your house for a soak.

Here<s what we did. My ''height challenged'' wife and I measured the perfect height of the tub by putting a temporary brace. 2X4's cut down until it fit just right when we sat on it next to an open area.  What I call the practice sit your a$$ down and rotate your butt to see if that is the height you want method.  15'' was the winner.

However, this might aid in the "negotiating process". ;D
