Used Bullfrog R8L vs new x7 or X7L
« on: April 09, 2019, 10:06:34 pm »
The R8L is 2 years old, lightly used. Everything is in excellent condition. Comes w/ cover, lifter, and steps. Was told the warranty isn’t transferable. Seller wants $7500x

For about the same amount I could get a new X7 or X7L. This has fixed jets( no jet packs). A single pump instead of two, 3 year warranty, steps, cover and lifter. This one is smaller.

Most of the time there would only be 2 of us, but 6-8 times a year we could have up to 6 or 7.

At this point I’d like some opinions.....  used vs new

Thanks

People often initially think they an get more for their used spa than they can but eventually reality sets in so making a lesser offer is the way to go to see if they are still in the 'hoping" stage.

There is no set formula but I'd say a 2 year old used spa should go for about 45 to 60% of its original price depending on wear/condition (but no serious issues to the controls, pumps, shell, frame...) with the high end being pretty much showroom perfect (no warranty transfer for ownership changes) but most falling nearer the lower end and even less if you have to do work/spend $$ to get it fully operational.

How much does a new R8L cost?  Sounds like it's priced high to me

We checked out a new one at the only Bullfrog dealer in the area and they had a list price of $12,500. I think the $7500 is too high, but we haven’t had that conversation with the seller yet.

Yep, customers don't realize how bad hot tubs depreciate.  If that is a private seller, $6k is probably top dollar.  A dealer may be able to get more but they would deliver and provide a warranty.

Just an fyi, the x7 and x7l have 2 pumps.

The R8L is going to have significantly better performance jet wise.  If you can see it up and running perfectly and it looks well taken care of, I'd go that route if you get them down to below $6k.  $5k preferably.  Look around at the sellers house, yard, and vehicles.  This should give you an idea of how well they maintained the hot tub.  If their yard looks like crap I wouldn't do it.

We went to see it. Excellent condition and even has the jet packs we would choose. Finally settled on a price of $5500. I’m happy.
