Does anyone have a outdoor fireplace with their hot tub?? Wood or gas??? We are thinking of installing fireplace within site of tub. I am thinking about wood burning fireplace on a slate or marble base just off of the deck, about 12 feet from house and about 15 feet from tub???  Any input???
thanks

I think it would be fantastic to have a setup like that!

I know that spahappy sells fireplaces.  I would defer to her as the expert on that subject.

Good luck and post pics if and when you do it!

i know barbeques galore sells them as well. they do look nice in the showroom.  the ones i have seen have stucco so it blends with the house.
IMO, a fire pit might look better being in the open.

My cousin lives at the beach and he said he just put one in near his spa. (it's a Calspa and I'm not sure if he is trying to set it on fire or not). The only thing is we are in a cold climate and I just wonder what the function would be? You wouldn't stand around it in wet bathing suits.  It wouldn't really provide heat enough to warm you before you get in or out of the tub. Maybe it just looks cool?  We have a brick fire pit in our woods and it is real nice in the summer when the pool is open. We have a hammock out there and tables and chairs and I even bake things in my dutch oven.

I've got a "chiminea" I picked up in Mexico last summer. 5' tall terra cotta. The pic below, though not anything like the nicer one I got, gives you an idea. I'v seen a lot being sold in this country in the one to two hundred dollar range.

If you can't sell it on eBay, it may not even qualify as landfill.

My neighbor has one of those Doc and after a time with a good hot fire in it the whole thing gets super hot and holds it's heat for a long time. Like a big hot rock.

I bought an cast aluminum chimenea for my deck. I almost bought a clay one but decided that in NJ with wet weather, I really didn't want to look at a plastic bag covering the chimenea. AND I was worried that on a deck, if it were to crack with a fire in it I would have one big mess.

I put it on the hearth pad that HD sells and I've fired it up about 3 times now. It does give a nice ambiance!

HDTV did a couple of shows this morning that incorporated beautiful outdoor stone fireplaces. they didn't have a spa but they did have one set up with a pergola, so I could imagine a spa there. Check out the scheduling on line and maybe you can catch a re-run..
The chiminea is really nice too and you can move it, if you want to.

check with local ordances misc with  "details"such as hieght allowed, setback, distance from fence, gas permit etc.... there might also be homeowner requirements for approval.

if you have one built, you will have to get a permit ( not that big of deal). depending on where you live, wood burning may not be allowed (california for instance).

i am in the process of having a 8' tall built..pretty easy to get the permit..

btw, in some cases, the local fire department may also be required for approval.

good luck..

I have one of those steel fire places that are very popular at some of the deparment stores and home improvement warehouse's.   I use it quite a bit, but not with the hot tub.  Mostly on the weekends I''ll start a fire, turn up the music and  par take in consuming adult beverages and sit by the fire.  It's great to come out of the pool on a summer night and sit by the fire.

Local codes say I can only have a fire for cooking. So,  I keep a pack of hot dogs in the frige, just in case the fire cheif wanders down to my oasis.  ;)

I could see how a fire by the hot tub would be very romantic, but also keep in mind it takes abit to start a fire, (if you're using wood) and the smoke factor.

If I had the money, I'd do an outdoor gas fireplace.  :)

Keep in mind the heat, and your plastic sides of your tub.  :o
