Topping my tub up using snow??
« on: February 14, 2015, 02:03:21 pm »
Live in Ontario, Canada and we have a large amount of snow this year. My neighbour says he has been topping up his tub using fresh snow for years. Is this safe to do?

It takes a lot of snow to melt into enough water to fill a spa. You risk injuring your back doing so.
It takes a LOT of electricity to melt the snow and heat it up to hot tub temps. You risk injuring your wallet doing so.

Remember, DON'T EAT yellow snow.... OR put it in your hot tub.
If you can't sell it on eBay, it may not even qualify as landfill.

I have tried this and it works. I am not filling up my tub, just topping up what has evaporated. It took about 7 shovel fulls and the temperature dropped from 104 to 98. The tub was back to full temp within an hour.

I feel sorry for you guys with all the snow you've been getting. At least you found a unique way to make use of it!

I'd just be curious as to your PH reading before and after.

No real change at all to the PH. Doesn't take long to get it back up to top temperature either.
