Looking for first tub in Dallas area
« on: February 28, 2012, 01:09:01 pm »
I'm prepping an area in my back yard for a 4-5 person hot tub. This will be outside and exposed to the elements.

I'm wanting to purchase a preowned, a couple of years old. I'm sure this is asked a lot but what manufacturer/model should I be looking at? I figure if I find a hot tub a couple of years old someone else can take the depreciation hit, much like buying a used vehicle, and still have years of usefullness.

I'm think about $5,000-7,000 is what I can afford.

Any thoughts would be appreciated

Anything advertised on Craigslist as new, and under 4 grand I'd run from. Stay away from Lagua Bay

These look good, but be SURE to see them fully operating,

If you can't sell it on eBay, it may not even qualify as landfill.

another option would be to spend the 7k and get something new, that a dealer will deliver and setup for you and will also have a warranty.

Thanks for the replies.

How about these spa's:

Anything there that is familiar? Its one of the only retail stores in town that has the prices listed, which I like because I loathe the whole sales process.

Any thoughts would be appreciated

Out of any of those Sundance would be your best choice.   But if your gonna go that route then look for a local Sundance dealer in Dallas if there is one?     If you want to go cheap/cheaper then some of the others would work but they are not going to deliver it to your backyard by the sounds of it and good luck getting any warranty work done.     It sounds like you want to make this easy but with those tubs other than Sundance most will be hit and miss on quality.

Have you even looked at any local dealers?    If not go in and see them.   They are not all the same as far as sales guys/gals go, you might find one you like and one that is not playing the role of the chessey used car salesman.    If they do just walk out and go to the next one.

Thanks Jim, good info.

I dont mind spending the money, I just HATE dealing with the cheesy car salesmen types. I can go online and find the prices of a million different products in nano-seconds but the price of a hot tub is protected by some sort of syndicate. I ended up at that page because it is the only place I have found prices online.

How about 3 brand names I should be looking at?

I'd look at Caldera, D1, Hot Springs, Jacuzzi, Marquis, Sundance to see which are in your area.
