Calculating deck supports to support a tub???
« on: June 01, 2008, 10:00:26 pm »
I am planning to move my tub from its current location on a concrete slab to a yet to be built deck off my existing deck.  My tub is about 5000 lbs filled.
I am unsure of how many deck peirs to use and was thinking that 6  x 12" piers below frost line depth should be enough but have no mathimatical skills to back that up.

Where can I find this information or how can I figure it out.

 Thanks in advance.

Both my decks are floating decks.  I've never had a problem with either of them.  They are only about 28" inches high, and to me, a floating deck is the only way to go.  A lot less work than digging holes and dumping in cement.  Most decks I would guess are overbuilt because you'd have to be an engineer to calculate the load rating :o
