Falls into the "barely" hot tub related
« on: August 27, 2007, 09:49:27 pm »
Since I broke down a couple months ago and bought my wife a Jacuzzi J-345 that she had been bugging me to get her for the past 10 years...now it is my turn to get a new (used) toy.
I have been wanting a hobby...refreshing an older car. I have always loved the Datsun 240Z and have been shopping for a couple months...while it is a 280Z vs. a 240Z, it is still first generation and still looks good (except for the "taxi cab" bumpers :)
I got this off the 2nd owner, the original was retired and had it almost 29 years, the seller had it a little over a year. It is unrestored and unmolested except for a crappy paint job the original owner had done about 10 yrs or so ago.
It could definitely use a high end paint job and the seats restored, other than that is is in remarkably good shape. I shoulda bought my wife that tub a long time ago :)

A good deal for me...I get to play with both now!

Nice car.  You should have a lot of fun with it.  I don't see many of those around here anymore.  Rust has eliminated most of them from this area.

Thanks, I am in Cincinnati and the rust has gotten most around here too. I actually saw 2 early 70's Opel Gt's on Sunday, it was so funny because I saw one and told my wife..I havent seen one of those in years...and then about 3 hours later, we see another one :)
I havent seen a first gen Z here for awhile. I plan on making this a "weekend driver"...no rain, no snow, etc...I am going to play around with it here and there, re-do the interior, then I will strip it down and put a nice paint job on it.
I have always wanted one, I'm not getting any younger, so I thought what the hell, lifes short.

Good choice as far as a Jap car!  The 240-280Z's......are in the top 10 of all time collectible sports cars. Datsuns idea back then was to offer an affordable sports car, that anyone could purchase. They went overboard in later years, and outpriced themselves lol.

I always favored Toyota, over Datsuns. Hate to say it but, they were 1 of the first foreign car makers,to use hemi heads. Chrysler had and has for years. Toyotas little 2TC/1600 was putting out more than 1 horse per cube, which was saying somethin in the day!

Fine choice, and it will only go up in value, compared to your "wifes" spa ;)

Tell my wife that :)
She has a habit of b!tching whenever I buy something of value. I can go out and, say for example, buy a HD 60" Sony and it looks like I spent $3K, then I dont buy anything for a year...in that same year, she buys $5K worth of  all kinds of "Stuff" for lack of a better word :).
The 280Z isnt as highly collectable as say a "70 240, but hopefully they will still go up in value. I am planning on keeping it for a looong time anyway:)
You are tight about Toyotas, one of my favorites is the 2000GT...what a sweet ride that was...and speaking os sweet rides...is that your Shelby? My 6 yr old is a diehard Mustang fan :)

It's half mine in title only lol.  It's the wifes ride, and she too LOVES Mustangs!  She's gonna take it to Sebring in DEC,to really test, what the car can do. It's a perfect track for it as,has lots of curves, and the Shelby is a tight/stiff suspension equipped ride.

My wife loves to go on cruises, and has us booked on average,2-3 a year. So when I want something,I get it! It's a 2 way street in our house lol.

Its a half and half in our house, we take turn driving the Mustang and both look forward to the cruise.  We will be celebrating the Mustang's birthday on a cruise in 240 days :)

Oh, the hot tub will be 5 years old and out of warranty then too.
