Cover Caddy mounting

Today I got my Cover Caddy.  

I read the instructions, said "Be sure to screw into the frame of the tub".
OK.
So I took the cabinet side off. Of course there was no framework were the Cover caddy was supposed to be.



So I made some. I measured the distance between the frameposts, cut out some foam and put two boards there to screw into.




Worst part was actually to fit the cabinet side back on.

So, now I've got a Cover Caddy. It works beautifully.

See, I wouldn't have even thought of that. I would have added some boards to the outside of the spa - going from support to support and then mounting the caddy on top of those. They would have had to be stained to match, and then maintained!

Your method is much nicer-looking, and you haven't exposed any more wood to the weather.

Right, your method is what they suggest in the manual.
2x2 on the outside.

That looks terrible. I just couldn't make myself do it.


BTW, if someone else tries this, be sure not to cut too carelessly - there can be wires, hoses and plumbing inside the foam. I had to modify the upper board because of a drain hose.

The cover even leans away from the tub when opened. Nice.

I agree.  I never knew that is how the cover caddy worked.  I always thought it stayed horizontal.  It even stows very low...and no stress on the hinge.

Right. No stress on the hinge, and very easy to cover again.
There´s a gas spring that helps lifting the cover back up again You just have to push it a little on the top, and it swings up. Great.
