Happy T.G. What do you think of my deck?

Hi,

For some time I've looked at other people's deck pictures here and thought it would be nice to share my pictures of mine when it was done. I didn't physically build the deck, but I did design it. Its made out of Ipe, which is basically insect proof and has the fire resistance of cement. My house is a late Victorian and the concept was that the deck blend into the house. Too often decks are added to nice old homes and look like a mustache on the back of the house. I tried to incorporate elements (and colors) from the house. In the front view of my house you can see how two 5 panel doors were used as part of the architecture. I used identical doors in the back. One is a closet for chemicals etc. the other a door to the side of the house. The design also serves to give me more privacy. Another thing I did was make a very wide stair case so the view from the house (our kitchen table) wouldnt be obstructed. Over all the idea was to create a space that felt like indoor space without the constraints of walls or ceilings. Of course youre looking at the deck now without furniture and the Fall view of the trees. While the deck is fairly substantial the hot tub is a modest H.S. Jetsetterãwhich works great for my wife and me. I love to go out there, light up the candles in the sconce, and enjoy the view.

Thanks for the kind words. Theres a couple of other things I forgot to mention.
1. The idea is that the lower deck is shaped like a shadow of the house
2. Theres something I thought might be of some potential interest to other future deck builders. Youll notice that the deck intercepts the hot tub about half way up. There are two trap doors in front of the tub that give me access to the drains (you can see the two small brass pull tabs) and if need be the wood work in front of the electronic guts pull up and out of the way.

Wow! what a lovely house n' deck. I really dig your front with the glass sunroom. It looks like you'll be surrounded by a tree canopy in the summer. Very nice - enjoy!
