Waterfall On or Off in the winter?

Hey guys I have a SD Optima and wanted to know if you leave the waterfall on all the time in the winter? When I get in now and turn on the waterfall the water is pretty cold when it comes out (just for a second). Will that little bit of water in there that does not circ freeze in the winter. I am in MD and it gets pretty cold. With the SD it is either on or off. Any input would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks

On my tub, I see the same thing, I rarely turn the waterfall on, but I do once a week or so for a few seconds to flush the water out. Even if I don't it doesn't freeze.
