one yer old jacuzzi 385
« on: October 11, 2005, 10:51:37 pm »
Hello, this is my first time writing to this forum so forgive me if i do something wrong. My wife and i are looking at a used jacuzzi 385. the guy selling it is asking 3900 dollars and it seems to be like new. he has it full and hot at his home. is this a good hot tub and is it a fair price? we went to a hot springs dealer and didnt like those any better than the jacuzzi but we dont really know what we are looking at. we had a swimming pool before and dont have a problem with chlorine. any suggestions? thanks

Sounds like a fair price to me. Just remember to factor in the cost of moving the tub. I don't know if Jacuzzi has a transferable warranty, so servicing will be another cost to consider.

I don't think the warranty is transferrable.  Sundance warranties are not, so I'd expect the same from Jacuzzi.
Try offering even less, just to see what the market will bear. You can always come up as you negotiate.  Make sure to leave room for moving expenses, things like that.

That is a very reasonable price for a 1-year old J-385 and it is even better that it is up and running.  Before you purchase the spa, I would just make sure there is a local dealer within 50 miles of you that is available to service the spa.

i would have to ask, WHY? why is the owner selling a 1 yr old spa that retails for 7-8k, for $3900? sounds as though there is more to the story....

if it sounds to good to be true......

i bought a new caldera in march this yr. as luck would have it i came into posession of a hot springs jetsetter, thru an estate sale, for next to nothing. it was in great shape BUT it was 4 1/2 yrs old. retail here in va is $5799. i put it in the local paper, asked 3200, and sold it with in 2 weeks for $2800. that's 1/2 price for being 4 yrs old, not 1 yr old...
if i had jac 385, and knew it sold for about 8k+, i'd ask $5500 and let some one talk me down to $4500 if need be..

it would probably be worth your while to pay a service call for a spa tech to come out and inspect it for you. better to spend $100 and make a more informed decision, BEFORE moving, wiring, filling, etc.....

Yep, I'm with obi wan...pay a tech to take a look and make sure you're not getting a lemon.  Jacuzzi Premium seems to have a good reputation but why is the person selling a year old tub?
