Tman...looking to patent your idea
« on: October 01, 2004, 02:55:51 pm »
I found this amusing in the Kool-aid mans messages of deception board........

"My lawyer tells me that it is not a good idea to patent the DAIT or anything that is complicated, because that gives the full details of the design and explainations to the world on the US GOV web site. At that point all someone has to do is copy it, make a few changes and they can steal it. These other spa companies are so dumb they can't even begin to understand how it works anyway."

How freakin hard can it be to mount a fan,and some insulation to a spa? (automated rheostat and a few solenoids should do da trix)

Tman.....if I do the marketing and sketch the "tainted" system,I'll cut you in for 40% of the action. We can do the first 500 spas in our garage, then we can just do it on the road and/or at the customers house.

His self centered, pompous ego never ceases to amaze me lol.

Actually what you should do is patent it and then charge JA royalties on the 20 or 30 spas he sells a year!

you could become a Thousandarie!

He's got an excuse for everything.  That must also explain why he won't submit his spas to ETL or UL for testing- they'll copy his ideas and steal them.

If his lawyer really did tell him this, then his lawyer went to school the same place JA did to get his engineering knowledge.

I'm in! Even if we end up Ten-aires, I'll take the risk.

BTW: you know how to make a small fortune in spa sales? Start with a large fortune.

Know what would be even more fun? Patent it,
copywrite it and sell it to the Evil Empire Watkins.  ;)

"Patent it, copywrite it and sell it to the Evil Empire Watkins"

Trademark it also......... but don't sell it......... GIVE it to them...

hmmmmmmmm, the $50 trademark cost could almost be worth the entertainment
If you can't sell it on eBay, it may not even qualify as landfill.

Retired (mostly) from the industry after 33 years...but still putzing around with a consumer information website, and trying to sell obsolete owners manuals

I'll put up the $50 and I'll deliver it to Steve Hammock myself.

Sorry I didn't get this sooner (some of us find money to be made in Hurricane destruction...LOL) Out of town.

Patent and sell hell, I'll just give it to whomever wants it. All the parts are available at Grainger and Home Depot. A few tools and a few hours and you can improve your spa's effieciency. But you have to buy a spa that has an air space between the foam on the shell and the cabinet walls and be willing to rip apart a brand new tub. For me it was easy cause I like playing with things. I haven't played in a while, but I need to find a better temperature sensing device that can be adjusted from outside the cabinet to allow for maybe a lower or higher temperature inside the cabinet to facilitate a possible water temperature rise, or not during fitration. So you can set your temp at say 99 and have fitration start at say 6 oclock and you water will be 102 by 8 thirty when your ready to soak. Just some random thoughts. The gravity dampers and ducting have helped to reduce air infitration and direct cool air right across my motor when the temp is right. I have ducted my air blower to the oposite side of the tub so it draws warm air for a longer period of time but it still is only a few seconds when its cold out. This winter I think I will seal the outgoing air damper, and leave the incoming gravity damper for air blower operation, but work on a better seal when it closes, like a tighter spring or something so it seals real tight so all the generated heat during filtration stays put as long as possible durigh 10-20 below bouts. I refuse to up fitration times in order to dampin heater use. I only need 4 hours twice a day to keep water clean so thats all I am going to use. I will figure out how to keep the temp of the water up as long as possible by adding insulation in spots where heat transfer is not needed, in other words away from the heat source (motor) This will also allow heat transfer into plumbing if the tub ever fails during a cold snap. Sigh....to many ideas not enough time!
