A deck to support a tub
« on: May 20, 2015, 08:34:51 am »
We've just placed the order for our first hot tub, an Artesian Antigua.  Now I've got about five weeks to prepare for it arriving.

The existing deck probably isn't strong enough to support the tub so I'll be pulling it apart and reinforcing before then.  Anyone able to help with suggestions of what is needed?  The deck rests on a frame made of 2x2" pressure treated softwood spaced at around 20", and the frame is supported by 4x6" posts spaced at about 80 inches.

Unfortunately the tub won't line up nicely with the existing support posts, but I could add more posts if needed.

If anyone can give any advice it would be very much appreciated.

Also, what do people tend to do with drainage?  Just let the water go where it does, set up a proper drain, or try to direct the water away?  I'm guessing with the chemicals in the water it's more harm than good for any plants it reaches.
