How to increase Temp above 104F

Hello,  
We Just purchased a new Sundance Caprio. The maximum Temp we can get on the control panel is 104F.
We would like to increase the temp a few more degrees. Does anyone know how we might be able to manipulate this system? without a major overhaul!

First off, there's a reason it's set to go to 104 maximum. Anything above can be dangerous.

You also need to speak to your dealer to fully understand if there is any risk of voiding your warranty if you do so.

There is an easy way of doing it but speak to your dealer first.

Theres been posts on this boards and others. If a spa is modified to go over 104 degrees, it is no longer UL certified. Im sure manufacturers would void your warranty if a technician sees that the spa has been modified. If its brand new, is it worth the loss of your warranty for a few more degrees?

I recommend you do not set it above 104 degrees. Any U.L. listed spa cannot have a settable temperature above 104. Also for the hydrotherapy benefits you do not want to go above 104, actually anything over 102 starts to decrease the benefits of hot water therapy.

I agree with Steve and Spaguy Ohio. But I'll play devil's advocate for a moment.   I have heard that on many spas this "104bypass" is just a jumper change.  If a problem occurs and you just move the jumper back, will you really void any warranty. (assuming your technically competent to move a jumper and remember to do so before any service?

As to the 104,  my tub will run to 105 and shut off if set to 104 and the 105 is very hot, I can't stay at that temp more than 20 minutes, but at times that sure feels good.

I worked for a company that had a "whirlpool" with a poor temperature regulation system and a thermometer in the tub.  I got in once at 108 it was like a bath too hot, I could only stay in a minute and when I got out I was red for an hour.

FYI, while I agree with you Steve, I did note that the originator's email address suggests he is a professional fire fighter and they should have some idea about burns and heat exhaustion.  (But it doesn't mean we can't point it out  )

While I will not bypass my limit, I find the topic interesting.

Correct me if I am wrong please, but it is my understanding that spas sold in europe are not subject to the 104 limit and this is why there is only an adjustment to get the temp to 108.  Can anyone verify this?

Many people question why their spa will only heat to 104 ºF. Throughout history public bathing was done at higher temperatures. Even today, in Japan, many public bath houses have water up to 115 ºF. In the United States and Canada (as well as most other parts of the world), spas are regulated to obtain a maximum temperature of 104 ºF. Prior to 1980 this was not the case, however on Dec 31, 1979, the Consumer Products Safety Commision (CSPC) released advisory #79-071, which warned of heat strokes caused by 106 °F water. This advisory recommended 104°F as the maximum temperature for a spa.

Underwriters Laboratory (UL) adopted this advisory and lists it in their controlling document for home spas, #UL 1563 (Electric Spas, Equipment Assemblies, and Associated Equipment)

The relevant portion of this document is section 32; Temperature Regulating Controls...

32.1 A unit shall be provided with a water temperature regulating control that has a maximum set point of 40 °C (104 °F) in the tub.
32.2 The temperature regulating control shall be adjustable and shall have marked settings, but it shall not have any settings marked hotter than 40 °C (104 °F).
32.3 A digital temperature regulating control that displays the selected temperature, but no higher than 40 °C (104 °F), may additionally display the actual temperature of the water.

UL has advised that any spa manufacturer that produces a control (or modifies a standard control) to exceed 104 °F is in violation of their UL listing and can have their listing pulled by UL.

I'll have to check with my European distributor tomorrow though.

In Europe if the spa is T.U.V. (European equivalent to U.L.) listed it cannot go above 104 F.

First of all,no government should tell u what temp.your hot tub should be!!!.second-i had hot tub from China it was set to110 limit,so I used 108 always,as I feal its My temp.. 3rd-tomorrow some moron will die in hot tub,and some smart a..s commisioner will change regulation to 102F.you not Free in this country!! Anymore. And yeas,there is a ways to raise temp. If u interested,let me know

I would like to know more about how to increasing the temp on a 3 yr old Catalina hot tub I am buying, I currently have an older tub which will go to 110 with no problem, I prefer it around 108, have been doing that for many years with no ill effects, just relaxed muscles lol.  I only am getting another one due to leaks I cannot find on my old one.  thanks for any help....this is my first post, I am new here....

Jacuzzi J-400 series are able to set at 106 through the factory J-1000 controls.. Normally, 104 is the highest, 105 and 106 in the extended temp setting.
