Hard Water or Tub Flaking?

Can you tell what this is at 1st glance?

advanced stages of calcium build deposit accumulation, are you on hard water, I assume?

I didn't have it the 1st few years, can I drain the tub, scrub it and refill?

Anything you suggest I put in when I fill?  I am in Chicago.

Lower the PH with acid before you drain (maybe to about 5, let it sit a couple days). This will pull some/(maybe most) of that calcium from the spa walls back into the water and this alone may do the trick for the most part.

Hard water I must still assume.  Regular use of Stain and Scale was the solutionin the first year and since.  Now accumulated calcium has seperated from the water and has become attached to everything the water touches, the internal plumbing, the components, and the shell.  Whaterver you do, do not empty your spa and let it dry out.  You will have a nightmare.  Wet calcium is very hard to see until it dries, then it is too late.  The same with the filter.  When it dries out in the filter it solidifies, you can knock it off, it appears to be something like sand particles.

I would suggest pouring in a full bottle of stain and scale.

That is not going to help your problem at this point. You need to lower teh ph which will pull some of that scale back into the water and then drain it away.

That did it, let it sit for a few days then drained it... Scrubbed the walls and they are now SMOOTH.
