Question on Amps
«

Okay, I've never been a techie and never claimed to be one.
I have a pump that draws 1.5 amps. Can anyone tell me how to figure what that would translate to in daily energy usage?

First you need to know if it's a 220 volt or 110 volt pump. Watts (or more exactly for AC - volt amps, VA) = voltage x amps. So 220 x 1.5 = 330 watts. Multiply watts by the number of hours the pump is on (watts x hours) and that is what your energy usage is. For kilo watt hours (kwh) divide the energy usage by 1000.
There is a conversion factor to convert VA to watts
http://www.powerstream.com/VA-Watts.htm
but I would use the above as a good estimation.

Thanks, Vinny. The pump is 110, so from your formula, I was able to figure it. That is simple. Basically, with that info, I was able to figure the pump would cost me $8-$9/month to run. This is for a disappearing fountain I have in my front yard.
