2008 Great Texas Balloon Race
« on: July 17, 2008, 11:46:47 am »
The balloon race was last weekend and we had a great turnout.  The race had to be cancelled last year because of too much rain, but the weather was beautiful this time around.  Close to 50,000 people attended over 2 days.  Unfortunately, all of my hydro techs were unavailable this year due to school, work, or personal obligations, so we had to just make due with entertaining ourselves through inbeveragation:

We parked the motorhome behind the tent and I had to rough it a couple of nights:

Service Tech Ronnie made sure that the water was perfect:

The damn yankee air force tried to disrupt the festivities, but they tucked tail and fled after I managed to wing one of them with my 9 mil mil gat:

The yankee horde did manage to target some of our oil derricks and set them ablaze:

My 2 weeks in the Cub Scouts provided me with all the training I would need to command the rebel forces as we repelled the varmints:

The tent looked really nice at night:

This lady hopped in and cooled off in the Grandee:

More to come.....

LOL!

Nice setup dude. You mentioned it being cancelled last year....was it cancelled ahead of time or did you go through that setup only to have to take it down afterwards?

Looks like some serious work;  hope you grabbed some sales leads from that event.

It was cancelled ahead of time last year, so it was no sweat.

Set-up takes about 7 hours as the beer flows, 4 hours otherwise.

We had some good conversations, but I do everything I can to avoid talking to folks about the spas when we're at these events.  It's aggravating and seriously hampers our fun.

After a refreshing night in the motorcoach, Saturday was spent hanging out with the military.  My boss has a standing policy that all active military get free beverages from us all weekend at these events:

The childrens enjoyed the spas:

As did the elderly:

The local Sunbelt dealer stopped by:

I managed to spy a Lotta Pinochet handbag that is all the rage in New York and London.  :

The mosquito sprayer did a great job keeping the critters at bay:

We moseyed over to the VIP tent for our nightly feeding.  Fajitas!

My boss only managed 9 pull-ups at the Marine booth.  You had to do 10 to win a shirt:

More to come.....

So, that’s what they call “handbags” in Texass?  Very nice, nice indeed! 8-)

If I were to get one, it'd definitely be in stripes and not plaid!

The balloon glow is always the highlight at night.  One of the balloons caught fire and I'd heard that a mime got burned pretty bad, but he never let out a peep...that's the type of old-school discipline you just don't hearabout nowadays:

The boss's youngestest son made parole and showed up with his gal.  It was a sweet and tender moment:

It is truly amazing to see the voluminous amount of debris floating in the air via the camera's autofocus:

There was a Led Zeppelin tribute band Friday night and some hillbilly music Saturday night, but the crowds were too crowdish and I did not take pics.

Well, got our tickets ordered, so I'm getting my game face on for the fights tomorrow.  Ya'll be good!
