I'm still working on Tech compensation and other Service tech job descriptions.

What I need to know now is...

1. How do you currently compensate your tech's, wage, bonus or benefits.
2. How much do you make as a tech
3. How much do you feel you can get a good tech for
4. How much does a consumer feel a tech should be paid?

You can answer any or all of these by PM, Email or on this topic.

This is almost done and I'm happy to share with everyone here the final results of this ongoing research.

I get 75$ per hour for my own leads and most dealers here want to pay me 50 but I never do a repair for any of the dealers for less than 60$. If they don't want to pay 60 then they can do it themselfs or find another tech, I have enough work. They can mark up there parts all they want to achieve a satisfactory margin. I mark my parts up 10-15%

Most consumers here have no problem paying 75 bucks per hour as long as the repair is normal (under 4 hours) In the winter there are exceptions to the norm but the consumers are more desperate, for lack of a better word.

I pay my own bennys and supply my own transportation and tools at no cost to the dealer or customer. Consumables are extra.

tman is about right........while we only service the units we sell.....i know service techs who have unlimited earning potential.  those that hustle can work until dark day 7 days a week.....i am not suggesting that is anyway to live but there is that much work out there.  a good tech can make six figures.....it is hard work though.......benefits.......all the heated chemical fumes you can inhale........cough cough.......

Not familiar with spa techs, but most skilled personnel in my area get between $20 and $30 per hour.  Call it $25 plus % of health insurance, something towards retirement, holidays, paid time off, WC, GL and vehicle...should be charging $75+ depending upon all your insurance costs in your area.  This, of course, for your own employee.  If hiring an independent tech that you supply steady work to...$60 sounds about right.

Let's not confuse what we charge with compensation.

We pay a percentage of what we charge.

TMan...(I know consumers will not like this) but standard industry norm, not just ours, is keystone your parts.  You have to be compensated for your knowledge.  You have to be paid for all those things you listed, your vehicle, fuel, tools, etc.  You deserve to be well compensated if you do prompt competant work.
