Hi! Anyone have any info on the haweye Jupiter? Seems to be a predominantly  East Coast model. Thanks

Poolandspas.com is complete B.S.  Any company that promotes that in thier marketing and tries to give itself credibility by  referenceing it, is suspsect. IMHO.

I know nothing about Hawkeye, but the above statement makes me question everything else they say.

I found this also on thier site:

Our Insu-Loc system uses two layers of foam to create a warm air pocket between the spa shell and cabinet.

This effective technology has been used for decades in double-paned windows and commercial freezers.


That sounds nice and impressive, but  that's not how double paned windows work.  They do not create a warm air barrier.  They are hermetically sealed with gases, and the glass is treated with films to increase it's insualating ability.  Additionaly, a window needs to be transparent. Therefore makers go through exspensive process to try and have them insulate as well as solid insualtion. I never understood why tub makers use this comparrison (We use the same technology as window makers! Why? There's no need, it often fails, and foam  is better.  Ask the window makers. They'll tell you.)

A Thermal tub uses the heat from it's pumps to create a warm air barrier equal in temerature  to that of the water's temperature to reduce any loss of heat from the side of the shell.  


All Comerical freezers  I've delt with were full foamed.    Has any one seen a Thermal Paned  comercial freezer?  


I hate it when tub makers don't know how thier products work and draw false analogies to try and bolster thier product.


 For those facing longer winter months, they may upgrade to our full-foam insulation package, the
most complete and effective insulation option available on the market.


I always get a kick out of the Thermal makers who claim it's so great. but offer a full foam upgrade for real insualtion.  ;)

This company seems big on the BS.

I agree with you.  I think its a case of "The Emporer has no Underwear".  I don't know why they would associate themselves with that outfit.  I guess it sells tubs and no matter how many tubs you sell, its never enough!

I agree that it doens't reflect well on ANY company that uses these meaningless logos.

But I don't get the   "The Emporer has no Underwear" statement. What does that mean?

The emporer was missing far more than his underwear but that's another subject (it is a favorite of mine).

I think we'll find just about everyone has some of their Marketing dollars in the Consumer's Digest and/or "Best of Class" ratings.

Ho hum.

Thats the opinion amongst us, but what percentage of buyers are first time buyers and never set foot in our forum?  I'm sure it looks impressive to 90% of the market.

I think Congress should enact a law that requires all new
potential spa owners to join this message board and post for one
month before purchase! Also all spa makers should be required
to put the following URL right next to the serial number:

Not us.  But then, we didn't get a Best Buy rating, did we?

I finally received a copy of the April CD and the only advertising I saw was the inside covers (plus three full page ads for Con Dig related products and services).  They have additional sources of revenue.  One hint is that they have two Licensing offices.  Use of the CD logo and the Best Buy seal is permitted under license only.  They also note that "Your editorial coverage in Consumers Digest is transformed into a valuable marketing tool when you reinvest your exposure through reprints...."  Come again? Editorial coverage?  At any rate, they make money from such sales.

We had invested a considerable amount of time and resources into supplying CD with the materials and data they requested.  We were  not expecting a Best Buy rating, but we were expecting an extensive table comparing our spas with those of other manufacturers.  We expected to get an independent comparison with other similar products. In other words, we mistook it for Consumer Reports.   [smiley=embarassed.gif]

The magazine defines a Best Buy as a product that offers the most value for a given amount of money.  Value is defined (a bit redundantly) as perceived quality divided by cost.  

How do they measure "perceived quality"?  From any three of the following:
1. Personal (hands-on) product evaluations (I know that the author went to a big trade show to look 'em over)
2. Independent testing and research facilities (doubt they did any)
3. Reports from government agencies, universities etc (I'd like to see 'em.  Tong & Rogers?  [smiley=evil.gif])
4. Other independent technical experts (they obviously didn't use the ARC report)
5. Retail establishments (???)
6. Service outlets (???)
7. CD reader and other consumer surveys (again, I'd like to see 'em)
8. Previously published evaluations (aha, hearsay evidence!)

Ah, well, we tried.  We did learn from the process and will be able to better position ourself for a future edition (in another 3 to 7 years)

I'm siding my house and the other night I had a rep from a national chain give me his speal.

I laughed when he said

"And we're a Consumer Digest's Best Buy! You know you can trust them. Have you read their magazines? "

"Excuse me, did you just say Consumer Digest,  or Consumer Reports?"

"Oh they're both great publications"

"No, one is paid advertising for the dealers, the other is a magazine that strives to rate features and quality to price..."
