Title: Deck Off Side Of Tub...Coverlifter???

We are looking to build an 8x10 deck off the side of our tub....just a small sitting area.  Our problem is that in order for the deck to come right up to the tub, we would have to get rid of our hydraulic lifter and just flop the cover off onto the ground.  I don't like the sound of that.  What does everyone else do?
