We are currently researching spas and have a size constraint to contend with. The width can be no longer than 69" - 74" and the depth can be no larger than 33". As a result we are deciding between the HOT SPRINGS JETSETTER, D1 TRIAD II, AND SUNDANCE CAPRI. Any advice as to which would be the most ideal selection?
Thank you.

My best advice is to wet test all three. Consider the dealer strongly as well. If the dealer has only been in business a short time or changes brands frequently then beware. I'd immediately walk from any dealer that does not encourage you to wet test.
I have the JetSetter and love it. In fact I just got out! :)

All are from very reputable spa makers and have similar layouts. Assuming the pricing is also similar (this purchase is to last you 10+ yrs so a small difference shouldn't sway you too much) get a good feel for how comfortable you are that each is a very good dealer who will support your needs.

I understand that the leangth of time a dealer has been in business is something to be aware of, do you not do business with them, soley on the fact that they are new?
-
All other things being equal I will go to a dealer with a demonstrated reputation, especially for large purchases.
It depends. :)
-
Hi frankdds, I too had a 33" depth restriction. I got the Jetsetter, and I love it. Just wet test each one, and go with what works best for you. :)
-
We Have the D1 Triad II. Love it. But, I agree with everyone else. You need to wet test, get a feel for how well you can work with a dealer, and how long they have been in business......saying that, because while we love our spa, the dealer has gone out of business.
-
It would be interesting to obtain the average business age of spa businesses that have either gone out of business or have changed brands within the past 5 years. I'll bet that a good many of those have been around a while and aren't considered "new stores" by most standards.
I'm all for customer service but I disagree with the concept of eliminating a store because they are new. Where would all the spa businesses (or any business) be now if everyone took that shortsighted advice?
In reality, it's not the "store" giving the warranty, it's the manufacturer and worse case scenario is that there are many service people to provide that warranty if need be.
I'm guessing you don't own a retail store Webini... ;)
-
Everyone would rather see experience with the dealer but everyone was new at some point. I agree with much of what Steve says but also understand Webini's point and think both points just need to be married a bit.
If the dealer is new then I really better feel comfortable that they are with a manufaturer that is well known for quality and for servicing their warranties in case this dealer isn't around a year form now. So, if the dealer is new but they are with a top notch manufacturer then I would not cross them off the list blindly due to their newness. If the dealer is new and the manufacturer has a so-so reputation then I would probably skip them by definition (but that's just me).

With regards to these models, how realistic is it to hold three people? and on a rare occasion four? Thank you.
Frank

Just add water to the dirt in your own back yard....You can have as many people as you want .
What's up now little piggy!!!!
-
The D1 Triad will give you a neck pillow that can adjust to just about anyone in addion to the sequential massage seat.
I think a wet test will cinch that up for you though...

The Jetsetter easily fits 3 people. It has seating for 4, but if the 2 sitting on the filter end are both adults, they need to be pretty good friends..... ;)

It's all about the level of "friendliness" you want to achieve! :D
A good rule of thumb is generally to take the manufacturers recommendation and subtract 2.

It's so nice to pop back in, post a very innocent, light hearted post and be taken TOTALLY wrong. ;) I've re-read my post a few times and have NO IDEA how our lurking friend found that to be some sort of slam towards her? ::) :o Anyway...
New job is going great thanks for asking Reese and I'm really enjoying it.

Well, she posted she can fit 4 friendly people and, by applying your formula you posted she can fit 1. She could have felt you were calling her a liar. :-?

Bingo!!
I am sorry, I guess I'm just more sensitive to Steves posts because of previous encounters (on another board) we have had between us.
I will shut up now and go to my corner......... ;)

You know buddy...In almost 20 years of doing this I've found that rarely can you comfortably fit the number of people that the manufacture claims and if you do you can't maintain the correct level of water for filteration when they get out.... so I agree ;)

You haven't been to one of my martini parties.... ;)
P.S.--Everyone fits in better with fewer clothes on... ::)

Wasn't meant that way at all. I don't recall any "encounters" between us in the past so either I totally forgot or I let it go. Guys do tend to be better at that! ;D
For clarity, my post was "A good rule of thumb is generally to take the manufacturers recommendation and subtract 2. " It didn't say take LG's recommendations and subtract 2 Hottubdan so no one was being called a liar... oh the drama... ::)

:-/ odd argument.
I think that the manufacturers go by standards set by coach airlines. Yeah, you can "fit" but it means keeping your arms and legs to yourself and sitting up straight.
I'll suggest a slight modification to the rule of thumb......how about you take manufacturer's recommended number, and reduce it by 25-30%
Or, we could talk "pounds" of people. This might be especially valid in the good ol U S of A! For example, if the manufacturer says 6 people will fit, They are really saying that 6 teenage girls will fit- so that is 100-125 pounds, x6= 600 to 750 pounds. That would be 3-4 big people.
Then we could talk about water displacement, but that might just get to complicated........ ;)

Are you calling me fat Anne? :'( I was just answering a question and I see no need to make this all about me and my being over weight. I wasn't trying to tell manufacturers how to determine capacity of a spa nor sell anyone a spa.... ;)
Just poking fun LG ...LOL.... ;D
Steve

Depends on the spa manufacturer. Consider the following 4 models from 4 different manufacturers. All are about the same size.
Jacuzzi J345 = 4-5
Hotspring Prodigy = 5
Sundance Chelsee = 6
Marquis Destiny = 7
:o :-? ::)

:o :o :o You're not the guy in Drew's photo, are you??? ;)
I do call America fat. But I'd never call you fat. :)

if you want a 3 peeps spa, then buy that size. it is not a 4 peeps spa tho. if you want 4 then it makes sense to buy a four seater. some things to consider in spa size. interior area and seating.....can it physically accomondate the allocated numbers of people and within that consideration are the seats wide enough for the average person. that is not always the case. regarding interior space....second line of thinking is water displacement.....six peeps can elevate the water level but generally you can adjust levels accordingly. you might consider draining off an inch prior to maxing out the seating capacity. assigned seating capacity can be somewhat dubious.....i see tubs allocated as 6 seats and less than 300 gallons of water that are no larger than my 4 person. i dont think you back out 2 people to arrive at the actual seating capacity. my 7 foot spas hold six people and my 8 foot spas are shaped the same and hold 6 people....the 8 foot spa has larger and wider seating though. i do talk to many peeps......what i hear most often is that the majority of time there are never more than two peeps in the spa anyway. my largest spa is nice but it can be just too big for someone under 6 feet. wet test......and think it through......
Peeps.....it seemed appropriate for Easter Time......have a great Easter all......

Interesting.
Jacuzzi J345 = 4-5 84" x 84"
Hotspring Prodigy = 5 74" x 87"
Sundance Chelsee = 6 88" x 88"
Marquis Destiny = 7 84" x 84"
THe J345 and MArquis, both have the same foot print (84" by 84"). Yet the Marquis looks roomier.
The Sundance is the largerst (footprint, I didn't check depth) yet seats less than the marquis? It's got more non jetted cool off seats, so they count less, but if they added a couple of jets, they could sell it as 7 therapy seats.
The Hotsprigns is the smallest of this list, but has the most open seating.
-
noting also drew....that the diminsions are outside to outside.....what the soaker is interested in is interior space, distance and layout.....it is tricky.

Very tricky,! :)
how they sculpt the shell and layout the seats is critical.!
The Hotsprings is the smallest of the 4 listed, and it's water area has the smallest volume ((325 Gallons), yet it isn't the one with the fewest seats, and rivals a larger tub. This is due to the open seating.
Interesting was the J345 and the Sundance have the same height and water volume (336), yet the sundance layout provides more seating. (sundance has the largest cabinet outside dim, but same water volume and depth).
Now the Marquis is actually 1 " less in depth than the Jaquizi but same outside specs, but more water volume and more seating. MArquis= 370 Gallons, J345 336 gallons)
Very interesting and tricky.

Very interesting and tricky.
Indeed. The point of my post was to show that the same general sized tub can range from 4 to 7 people. ;)
In reality, allowing for seat differences, there is no way they should vary by 75 percent!! :o
-
under the heading of idle speculation.....is possible to charge more a 6 person tub than it is a 4 person tub? Even though they have the same exterior dimensions and water capacity and many other similarities but is larger by two seats.
